CSR Fantasy Football.
« on: September 03, 2004, 01:09:14 AM »

It's September again, and you know what that means. No, not flapjacks...but FOOTBALL! You europeans are missing out (NFL Europe doesn't count) on this amazing phenomenon. So that means we need to have a fantasy football league because it's what all the cool kids talk about at the lunch table. It's free and it's fun at Yahoo. To sign up.

Finally information regarding the league. There is 20 teams max in the league. 2 are already filled by Deuce and I. It's on a first come first serve basis, so sign up ASAP.The draft will be an auto pick because live draft would be too tough to coordinate. You rank players and it picks them according to who's available. It explains it once you sign up, there's a link for it. Cut off for the sign up is 10 PM EST TONIGHT. I will then close the league for sign ups and start the auto pick draft. As soon as I know when the auto pick draft is scheduled I'll let you guys know (I have no control over this) because I believe you can join the auto pick draft and make the choices yourselves instead of having yahoo make your picks. I BELIEVE this is still doable but since I didn't play last year, I'm not sure. So if I'm wrong, oh well. Make sure you have your players pre ranked anyway incase you can't. With any luck that should allow us to have our teams before the first game is played on Sept 9th. SO SIGN UP NOW!

http://help.yahoo.com/help/football/frules/frules-01.html Here's a help section about fantasy football. Maybe it will answer your questions, maybe not.

TEAMS:

The Concrete Blimps (Grounded?)
Cavaliers  (Skip)
E A G L E S-dev (dev, way to represent!)
Strikeforce Justboy (JB)
Kupo Kommanders  (Deuce)
Heavy Metal Marauder (Me)
MonTheDons (Pancho)
X-League (XF)
T-Rex's 3 Downers (T-Dog despite his bashing of our great game )
CFL (Thee)
L337 0w|\|4g3 (Thumb)
NINJAVANISH! (Kash Money)
The Enialators (Enialator)
McPeePants (Deuce's brother)

I have no idea about American Football other than what I've learned from movies and TV shows.  However, Strikeforce Justboy have entered the arena.  Prepare for total domination.

If American Football is anything like Badminton then I am going to kick some ass. Er... now what's this drafting business all about then?

If this is anything like Warhammer 40k where most of winning is luck, I'm going to get schooled horribly (ask PK for some humiliating war stories), but it sounds like fun. It's not a lot of work, is it? Cause you all know how much I hate actually doing work.

Anyway, yeah, I think I might be interested.

I want to see the progress of who has joined the league but I dunno how - I'm logged into Yahoo but it says I don't have a team.  Perhaps it's because it hasn't been picked yet but I want to pick some players.  Any comments?

I'd recommend editing your predraft rankings. The system drafts players based on your rankings. The highest available player on your list will be drafted each round. If you don't rank enough players, the system will just draft the highest ranked player remaining (the default rankings). To access the page, click on "My Team" and then "Edit Pre Draft Player Rankings". There it explains it a bit better and allows you do edit the rankings.

I'm in there!!!!!!!

All I've got to say on the matter is 'MonTheDons

Oh yeah baby "hat-trick" every game for my "strikers", there won't be nothing getting past my "back four".  And if you do you'll have trouble beating my hero in "nets".

Never heard of this draft lark before is that like a new name for the "transfer window"??

OK so there may be a FEW differences between my Fantasy Football team I started for OUR football season and this one for yours - but hey there's always beginners luck!!!

If it gets won be any of us Euro types then theres going to be some real shame for you guys!!!  Maybe if the numbers are right we could make it into a tourney - Europe vs America.  Except there would have to be some sort of handicap for us!!!

Could be quite a good laugh for however long the season lasts

Wouldn't that be NCAA Football? Those leagues are esssentially where people that weren't good enough for the NFL end up after school (assuming they still want to play football).

It should also be noted, that the draft order is going to be determined at random (who picks when). I'm not going to assign one because I would obviously show favortisim based on who uses the autosniper and camps the least.

Signs up are closed.

It's going to have the draft sometime between now and 12 PM PST on Saturday. Hopefully it gets it all sorted out before the first game Thursday. That is the reason I "tried" to move it up a day. I actually closed it when I originally said I would.

Can you be more specific?

Do you mean be there for the actual draft instead of having the yahoo system do it for you? Yes, If you manage to find the exact time it gets done. Or do you mean can you still prerank your players. That I'm not sure. I think you can but you check by just clicking on my team. Hope that helps, or I'm still confused as to what you're asking.

woot drafts!

i got my first two draft picks of Ahman Green and Steve McNair.. my first WR pick with Peerless Price.. AND i got my Patriot Defense.

though looking through all the teams, it looks like Enialator might be the biggest challenge: Manning, Holmes, and Baltimore Defense

Curses to dev for taking my backup QB (Brady) and my top kicker choice (Vinatieri)

EVERYONE'S team was auto picked last night, based off the ranking of players you made (or the pre-existing draft list already made)

Yes and I didn't get a chance to do my rankings - because I had no idea what I was supposed to do and I assumed, since SG said the 9th was the deadline, that I still had time. JB on the other hand DID get the chance to pick the guys with the silly names

Yeah, what gives with that? My NFL expert was going to pick the worst possible players today. I suppose randomness will result in a pretty sucky team anyway.

I wish someone had told us you could set preferences for this Auto selection that was taking place - thats just so not European!!!!

Whats the chance I'll get a player called Pilliniak now then *tut* and i suppose the chances that they have done something original like giving me a team full of *errm* quaterbacks (struggled for a position there - I dont think they're as good all round as goalies tho! ) - I was hoping to go a whole season with one type of player and see how many points I'd get.

But now my fun is probably ruined

Fingers crossed that randomiser did me some favours

in order to get an even ammount of teams to start the league, i made a team for my brother to control. If you want joey, you can have the team (though you must keep the team name of MC Pee Pants  )

It would be like you were the Coach controlling all the stuff and my bro would be the owner, repeating the benefits

interested?

on a side note, is there a reason why justboy's team has almost a third of the players no longer active in the NFL (ie cut or out for the season)? I do notice the trend of weird last names..

I've got connections inside the NFL - we will see many of these players making a comeback as well as some starting sparkling careers in showbiz.  Also, one of my players is called Gaylor.  Gaylor.  Let's just think about that.

Also - i picked these guys cos of the names but what's the point in putting them up for selection if they aren't even playing?  So crypto-fascist.

joey - i'll send you the info for my bro's account. just to let you know, being onlu 3 points back and a running back still left to play, it appears MC Pee Pants will defeat CFL in the first week

im still shocked that mcnair only threw for 73 yards. maybe ahmed green will get 4 touchdowns tonight

Deuce - Air McNair has been grounded. Ahman Green will do no such thing, at least not this week.

Despite the fact that my team lost, I still had a good week. I had the highest score out of all the losing teams, but more impressive is that my team still had the 4th highest score out of all 12 teams.

MC Pee Pants and CFL looks like have tied.. unless yahoo decides to do any last minute score changes. Thats rather rare to get a tie game.

How do you find out how well you've done/doing?

I struggled to find out what players I'd been given!

I don't know why I'm asking cos I'll no doubt be last

No worries I figured it out - I'm not last  thank goodness for JB and his team of randoms

I do like the way me, stu and tommy are propping up the table already!

How do these matches get decided anyway?

Passing Yards (50 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (20 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (20 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-2)
Offensive Fumble Return TD (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

Each player you have as a starter (QB, RB x 2, WR x 3, TE, K, and DEF) gets a total ammount of points based on how the played in their game that week. for example:

Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans threw for 73 yards, had 1 passing Touchdown, and ran for 11 yards. So, he got 1 point for the ammount of yards he threw (1 point for every 50), and 6 points for the passing touchdown. He didnt get any points for the 11 yards running, because its 20 yards for each point.

You add up the scores of all your starters (your benched players do not count), and that is your score.

I think me getting 24 points is a bit of an embarassment for you really Eni.  I've never watched a game of NFL football in my life - i barely know the rules and picked my players depending on how fun their names were.  I suppose this is just your compensation for me butchering you on CS.

If it's true karma coming through that league the next time you go to edit your team the page will probably cause a glitch to your computer, overheat it, then send massive shockwaves of electric burnage through the keys and mouse and claim your hands.  Zing.

Woah! Where did you get that pic Eni? That place is a mess Surge.  Where is it you live anyway? Cos I've always wanted to go to the place where people have speech bubbles when they speak.

I'll tell you what is also pretty weird.  I too keep my porn in a cardboard box.

I wonder how long i should wait until i fix obvious errors with the MC Pee Pants team that joey wont notice..

At one point this week, i was actually worried that i wouldnt have a good WR to sub in for my third spot and that I might have to do some drastic trading.. but then i realized im playing Strikeforce Justboy..

yeah.. thats pretty much like eni's team. The reason he is winning is because he got first round pick. I don't think hes actually changed anything on his team, or for that matter even changed his draft order..

I just wish I knew what Deuce was on about

I was just given players and I doubt I could make any informed choices on changes!!

"first round pick" and "draft order" mean ZERO to me!

But I'm not last so I don't really care!!

I have yet to even go to the site, don't even know how!  Skip showed me once and that I had a bench and could sub people in and stuff!  I have done none of this except mail apersonal letter telling each player on my team if they do not perform I will turn them over to another team owner like Just Boy!

Words cannot describe how shocked i am that im losing to JB. instead, i shall use this picture to illustrate my feelings right now. Im this close to benching Price.

Maybe if Washington DEF gets 15 points against Dallas I can still win..

Enialator, if you actually followed any of the thread you'd know where to look.

Deuce, your team is doomed. Airmcnair has been grounded.

If the concrete blimps didn't have 3 guys with a bye week, you would have beat me.

well, it appears ive lost my game. congrats to JB for winning his first

and with that, im benching price this week in pure anger, and benching mcnair because of his injury.. hopefully my new recruit kerry collins can do magic against the texans.

and congrats to grounded for at least tieing his game against SG.. still 2 minutes left in the game and a few more yards by eddie george will win it for ya.

Post the scores and standings for the rest to see once its updated SG.

EdIT - well, according to yahoo sports, Eddie George has a touchdown and 19 yards.. 1 yard short of another point. so if yahoo decides not to change any of the game stats (like they did with CFL and Mc Pee Pants), it looks like Heavy Metal Marauder and the Concrete Blimps are going to have a 69-69 tie!

I'd like to say that the pass interference call that led to the touchdown was a total joke. But yeah, if grounded put in people that were actually playing, he'd have killed me.

He is innocent until proven guilty, which means he's allowed to keep working. Of course once convicted or if he cops a plea, he'll still be a superstar and shouldn't have any trouble finding a team to play for. Whereas the average joe would have a helluva time finding employment.

he already ple'd, he wont server any jail time until after the season

any fines or suspensions from the NFL is still up for grabs though.

I doubt he'll server any jail time, though he might serve some in the off season like you said. He has been proven guilty and also has been proven a superstar running back, so therefore he does not face the same penalties that a normal drug dealer would face.
God Bless America!

My team got hammered yesterday...unless Johnny Morton and the Chiefs pull a big upset out, Skip could get the monkey off his back.

Jail time for the rich is called community service.  Except in Martha Stewarts case.  Now thats just plain jail time.

It looks like MonTheDons will take one from Enialators this week. I don't see him making up a 25 pt difference.

woot.. and ive secured a win against skip even without my two "top players" playing yet (i use "top players" loosely..)

Quote:

especially since out of the two people he has playing starting for tonight, one of them is injured and won't play.

25 points by a WR? no.. i dont think so.

X-Factor will utterly destroy Enialator next week by the way.

In my opinion the top team to beat: MonTheDons
Sleeper team: The Concrete Blimps (especially with their new offensive coordinator  )

so not only am i running my own team, i am grounded's assistant for his team, and co-owner of joey/my brother's team (ie, i go in and make the last minute changes that he never does  )

if only grounded informed me he was going to get ripped off by SG in his trade...

pfft. you took advantage of his European innocence

Gates for one of your STARTER WR's would have been a more fair trade.. he's giving up the second best TE in the league for a backup WR

Well, he obviously wasn't entertaining many offers for him. Supply and demand determines value. Nobody else offered ANYTHING for him, his value is therefore going to decrease.

eh, it still doesnt change the fact that he is getting majorly ripped off in the trade. mainly because he has no idea how it works anyway..

oh and by the way.. the person you traded him is currently appealing a 4 game suspension for breaking the drug abuse policy..

Again supply and demand. That's why in BASEBALL when we (the philadelphia phillies) traded Curt Shilling to the D-backs and Scott Rolen to the Cardinals, we got nothing more than an average player for an all star. With that being said, now that I know the guy is going to get suspended for his debauchery, I'll replace him.

I don't really understand why my team are losing.  It's as if the choice of the players in the team actually reflects the results.  I feel this information should have been communicated to me much earlier.

It seems to me that injustice is spreading like a scratched groinal rash.

By hours you mean minutes right? I didn't even know I was in first place until deuce posted the results.

And I'm glad to hear that you still can't control yourself some 30 years after getting out of diapers, or do you still wear those.

Another trend that is continuing is the Eagles winning. Everyone likes that trend. A trend that did come to an end this week was the Pats winning. Pats are still world champions and the team to beat, but the I'm liking their chances this year. TO is a MONSTER.
