Having just seen a really decent film I was inspired to post on here and see what other stuff you guys have been watching and would recommend.

Back on the old Jolt 56k forums there was a huge film thread where people would post various Top 5's, review and talk about latest releases and just basically discuss everything movie-like.

I think that cinema and film are a pretty massive part of pop culture and I myself have aspirations in starting my own production firm after uni.

So what have you guys been watching?  I just watched Matchstick Men with Nic Cage, directed by Ridley Scott.  It's a heist/con-artist type film.  So here's a Top 5 Heist Films to get us started...

1.  Heartbreakers - Jennifer Love Hewitt + Ray Liotta were comedy.
2.  Get Shorty - More gangstery than heisty but Travolta was class.
3.  Reservoir Dogs - Violent but kitsch and different.
4.  Shooting Fish - Brit flick with Kate Beckinsale.  Fun and lightweight.
5.  Matchstick Men - Cage, Rockwell and Lohman all perfom well.  Slick direction.

My thoughts are obviously a bit more detailed than those little notes but it's just a taster to try and get people responding

I hardly watch any movies at all; on tv or physically going to the movies. They don't interest me much, but Reservoir Dogs kicked so much ass and took so many names.

On the rare occasion I actually watch a movie, I generally go for a comedy flick. One of my favorite comedies is Better Off Dead with John Cusack. It's randomness is what makes it funny. I mean how random is a hamburger playing Van Halen's Everybody Wants Some!! ?

Everyone should play Cool Movie Trivia. Great way to pass study halls.

www.cool-movie-trivia.com

Didn't check to make sure thats the link, but I'm pretty sure it works. If not google it.

I just watched the Butterfly Effect last night and wow it was good. I never heard anything about it when it was in theatres though.

No, there are many other scenes that are just as cool, if not cooler.

Was it the 'apparently rubbish' theatre version or the 'supposedly good' dvd version? I haven't seen either but was contemplating the dvd...

I just watched;

1. Spiderman 2 which was a lot better than i thought it would be.

2. Euro Trip which was great was a bit like road trip and american pie
    but still enjoyable.

3. King Arthur which i thought was awsome whit some amazing fight
scenes and lots of gore. (cant beat some good old gore!!)

Spiedy 2 was pretty good I thought.  Some good comedy moments as well as the CG and action.  Kirsten Dunst was a bit annoying though.  There are some good superhero movies about - I really want to see Hellboy though.  Hopefully it will hit rental soon as it's out of cinemas I think.

King Arthur will be good for Keira Knightley and I imagine there's quite a lot of cheap chuckles in Euro-Trip.  I'm gonna watch em both.

Spidey 2 was ok, but there were some surreal moments of crapness in there. It was about 30 mins too long as well - they could have cut a lot of it and it would have flowed a lot better.

2.  Resevior Dogs - Gritty, intriguing, violent and hey a guy named Mr. Pink!
3.  City of Angels - Always need a date flick, this is a real heart rencher!
Stay tuned and sign up for Net Flix it ROCKS!

Troy was cool I should've brushed up on my history before I watched it though (or maybe its a good thing I didnt?)

Shaun of the Dead was quite funny.

Roger that - I will be avoiding Bogeyman.

Some cool movies on the way just now from a comic book angle - Constantine first then Sin City and Fantastic Four...I think Sin City will be treats.  Quality cast with Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen and Micke Rourke as well as a great director in Rob Rodriguez - I just hope the green-screen work doesn't ruin it.

Just watched Being John Malkovich on VHS.  It was so unpredictable and really quite original.  Laughs and cringes and satisfaction throughout.  If you're into films which are slightly off the beaten track but maintain a Hollywood sensibility this would be your cup of tea.  I enjoyed it immensely.

If you liked that one, check out Adaptation without delay. My favorite of all movies based on screenplays by Charlie Kaufman. Being John Malkovich is a close second.

Porter and I saw "Robots" while we were on vacation. It was all right, but I'm getting tired of all of the big name actors they are trying to shove into animated movies these days.

We also watched Castle in the Sky, which was excellent. Studio Ghibli is growing on me.

Castle in the sky was excellent.  Another great Miyazaki film is Nausica.  Though not so well known outside of Japan Nausica was Miyazaki's first major animation release and definitely worth seeing.

Also Howl Circus, Miyazaki's most recent film, should be in American theaters this summer.  If I remember correctly Howl Circus was not written by Miyazaki, he animated it, but it's still an great film and shouldn't be missed if you enjoy Miyazaki's animations.

Well I can officially say that the Pacifier was horrible.

I guess if you were a 7 yr old it would've been good, but my GF who is madly in love with Vin Diesel even said it was rubbish. I didn't think it was possible for Vin to be in a worse movie than 2 fast 2 furious but he pulled it off.

I saw Dead in the Water (or something similar) on TV while I was in the States last week......

It was truely a terrible excuse for a film....

even while bored out of my mind I only handled about a half hour of mind numbing bad acting in a storyline with zero credibility.....

Is Vin even in 2F2F? I thought he was only in the first one, which wasn't too bad. I imagine it's probably better than Chronicles of Riddick from what I hear...

woops my bad I meant the first one.

The Chronicles of Riddick was ok imo

I also thought he was good in Pitch Black, Boiler Room, and The Knockaround Guys.
