Hello guys,

Im really not up to date on pc gear these days. I wanna buy a 20inch wide screen monitor. Im looking at some dell. I dont know wich would be best.

1- http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/lcd_w1900?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

or

2- http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=CADHS1&sku=320-4111&category_id=4009 with a refresh rate of 12ms.

Am I gonna have a good image on teh LCD TV or will I get best results on the ACL monitor.

Do you have other options.

thks

well the "response time" on tft's is an important factor if you plan to use it for gaming and the first one you linked to has a 25ms response time which frankly would probably cause ghosting and not be very good if indeed you do tend to use it for gaming.......

25ms = (1000/25)Hz = 40Hz (this is not strictly an meaningful calculation but it shows the idea)

the other one has a 12ms response time, which, for the size of the screen is excellent!!!

12ms = (1000/12)Hz = 83Hz

you can "roughly" now think of "response time" like "refresh rate" and everyone knows that a refresh rate of below 60Hz is not of any use......

now tft's work in an entirely different way to crt's and so as i've pointed out you cant really equate the two times/frequencies but they are still linked....

most people would not recommend buying a tft with a response time greater than about 16ms (~60Hz) because for gaming and video you will probably see ghosting of the images

Hi.  I just wanted to post some quick notes on LCD TV's.  I have one and wouldn't want to use it for PC work or games.  Be very careful of display resolution, if 1280 by 768 isn't what you want as your main screen resolution don't get the LCD TV.  Also check what kind of inputs it has.  I'm not sure what DVI-HDCP is.  If it's a normal DVI input then your probably okay but double check.  If your stuck using the old VGA input you might not be happy.  Other then that it looks like that dell is a Samsung or Sharp Aquos OEM, both are very good LCD TV manufactures, so TV wise it would probably be pretty decent.  My brain is asleep so if this makes no sense I apologize :-p

I have the 17" Dell UltraSharp. It's got a 12 ms response time & DVI and I don't have any ghosting. The monitor produces clear and crisp images. For $300 it wasn't a bad deal at all.

<3 Ebay.

I'm assuming that the higher end stuff is just as good, if not better. I'd say go for the LCD monitor. This is of course, all depends on whether you want to play games with this thing and the TV function was just a secondary thing.

read this

Summary: if you have the money go for LCD...if youre going for bang for your buck (which is pretty damn good bang) get a CRT.  LCD performance is better as it has no real refresh rate, but they are expensive.  On the upside, they dont take up much space...FYI i have a Samsung LCD with 12ms response time, and life couldnt get much better.

I found really good deals on ebay.. But I dont know how much duty fee I will have to pay if I buy from US. Dell sell the 20widescreen for 949$ can and on ebay its 500-600$can . I just need to find how much extra I will need to pay.
