Requesting Help

I have a favor to ask of everyone. Unfortunately it's time sensitive, so it won't matter in another 6 hours or so, but I'd like to  get any feedback I could. I don't want to bias you, so here's all I'll say.

Quote:
This group of people simply cannot stand to live in such a way, and may withdraw entirely into themselves, or in extreme cases kill themselves.

All I'd like to know is where you think this sentence was taken from. What context does it belong to? There are no wrong answers, I'm just looking for people's first impression. Where would you expect to read a sentence like this? What could the entire book/article/text be about?

Come to think of it, I have a second one that also applies. Doesn't have to be the same source, just want to know where this statement might have come from:

Quote:
You have to have control or they will go crazy on you

Thanks!

Psychology textbook perhaps? No idea about the second one, but it doesn't marry well with the first.

Sounds like an article of some sort which catalogues some form of mental disorder. Other than that, I am at a loss.

My first thought was slavery was involved in both quotes.

I'm not sure why but that was my reaction. Hope it helps.

Is this something for school?

Indeed it is Skip.

Grounded: what group of people would that section of the psychology text book be talking about? Doesn't matter what you say, just your first impression.

Also, feel free to think about them as disjoint statements-- they don't necessarily have anything to do with each other, but if it helps to think of them that way, that's okay too.

All I'd like to know is where you think this sentence was taken from. Interesting due to the refrence to (GROUP OF PEOPLE) I would say it might be an article about a sect, group or fanatics over taken by an opposite group who was larger.  Now being faced with having to learn to meld with the new group for survival cannot due to thier belief. What context does it belong to? Possibly a psych book or article in a book./There are no wrong answers, I'm just looking for people's first impression. Where would you expect to read a sentence like this? In an article or text booWhat could the entire book/article/text be about?  A book on phsycolgy or even maybe Natioal Geographic.

The paper is in, and this thread has been cited as a resource. Feel free to remove any statements you might not care to have my professor see. I necessarily couldn't warn you ahead of time what my purpose was so as to not bias the results, so I am obligated to make sure you have the opportunity now to opt-out.

According to the guidelines set down by my college, I'm also required to make available the "study" that this was a part of. (Technically this is just a sociology paper and probably doesn't fall under the psychology experiment guidelines I'm citing, but I'd rather be too cautious than too lax.) So let me know if you really care to read the entire paper I wrote, otherwise I can just explain the context I was asking these questions from.

Thanks for your input!

I would too, Sociology was one of my favorite classes in highschool, it was great because the teacher made it very clear this would be more like a college class and it certainly was, alot more room for creative ideas and viewpoints. Examining how people react to eachother is a startlingly good way to gain insight into the human psyche.

Other people are the best and worst things about life.  It's completely pointless living your life without interaction but that said, the majority of people are awful so you have to wade through a lot of crap to get to anyone worth relating to.

Syndicate Wars = MaxPwn.  Cross my heart hope to die.
