TigerDirect blows

Just making news of bad service travel quickly.

I ordered myself a Shuttle SN41G2 case from TigerDirect to replace one of my cases which was on it's last legs (the fan in it's non-standard power supply stopped spinning  ) and it finally arrived on Wednesday. The case they shipped me was obviously a restocked item with a very careless previous owner. I noticed that:

1) was missing the faceplace for the optical drive bay. (running linux on it so I don't really need a drive in it full-time. In fact, I only own one working CD drive which is in my gaming machine. This is a Problem.)
2) had a bunch of dust collected on the main fan from someone running if for obviously more than just a couple of days.
3) had bent pins on the IDE connector on the motherboard from somebody removing a cable carelessly <wince>.
4) had scratches in the inside of the case from sombody mouting a CD drive with the wrong screws, and then Forcing the rack into place <wince> (they give you smaller screw which will fit, this jackass used some standard ones which are too big to slide in).

I called them this morning at 8am MST (10am EST) and I was on hold for exactly 33 minutes. The guy who answered sounded like he loved his job so much that he was probably suicidal. The only thing I got out of them is that a manager had to review my issue and they would get back to me probably monday, but the outcome was very uncertain since this was a very special case. I am now doubting if I will get replaced.

Strongly consider this before ever considering doing business with this company.

Sucks.

Did they advertise it as refurbished/restock or did they claim it was a new unit? The product page didn't load, so I have no idea. Either way they shouldn't sent out something that messed up. Good luck with getting that fixed.

That was my first choice for a SFF system, but I opted for an SN45G instead. It lacks the onboard graphics adapter, but it's okay since that's a part you usually want to upgrade a couple times during a systems lifetime. As long as you get a new one, you can't go wrong.

It is a pretty sweet little unit.

I wanted the integrated video since this machine is only going to be used as a server/workstation. A geforce 4 with up to 128mb system memory is well more than enough for that.

I especially like the fact that it has two buit in vga ports, so I can pick up another CRT for cheap and then go dual-head . In the future when I get some money, I can slap in a AGP card with dual DVI and then pick up a pair of sweet LCD's. And its socket A so I can hand-me-down my other proccessor when its gaming life is up.

Let me fix that first part for you:

Sounds nice, but I bet you'd have a hell of a time getting that to work right. When I was trying to figure out why built in NIC wasn't working right, I visited some forums about Shuttle, and the general consensus was that Shuttle basically uses the people who buy it right when it comes out as beta testers. Plenty of horror stories withpeople trying to deal with their customer service and getting things fixed.

You're on. Have all the parts delivered to me, and I'll have it working in an hour or two

See I don't know if it's fair to blame only Shuttle for that. Loads of companies use early adopters as products beta testers. You can certainly fault Shuttle for bad customer service if you want, but I couldn't because all of my products from them worked fine out of the box, which I hope is the case for the vast majority of people buying their stuff. I can already tell you that the next PC I build a couple years down the line will also be a Shuttle-- though I'll definitely also be sure to buy a late revision model that's had plenty of testing and I'll still be crossing my fingers hoping I don't have a bad on-board NIC!

When I talked, the suicidal dude said that he would get back to me within one business day which I interpreted by Monday morning. Well he didn't. This morning I called them back and was on hold for excactly 28 minutes. The guy on the other end had very little grasp of the English language, but I was able to at least get my return number out of him within the first two minutes. Thank god.

I am looking forward as to how long it will take before I get my item.

Good luck with that Terraji. I know TigerDirect will make it right for you in the end.

Yeah, someone said I was too cynical today.

Oh happy day!*

*no fault of TigerDirect's competency

I shipped the case back a while ago and it arrived at the tigerdirect warehouse Monday. Seeing as it was Friday and I have heard no word, I decided to call my friends at tigerdirect again. 15 minutes on hold later. I get a guy who seems pretty nice, speaks decent english. He says it takes up to 10 business days to process my return and to call back after 10 days.

I was under the impression from the first guy I talked to the first time I called that they would send me a new case.

Talking to this guy today I learned that if they accept the return they will not ship out a new one and instead credit my account and if I fax in my reciept I can get reimbursed for the shipping charges.

I checked my credit card balance today out of curiosity and find that I was credited the money on Wednesday.

Thank you Tigerdirect for not informing me in any way of what is going on and making me call your crappy customer service and wait on hold 2 more times than I needed to and giving me inconsitant information each time.

Thank you Tigerdirect for giving me my money back so that I can give it to a company that actually gives a flying **** about it's customers.

I just hope the hoops I must jump through to get my shipping charges reimbursed aren't nearly as bad.

Might I suggest http://www.mwave.com ?

They have a very simple site, but their prices usually can't be beat-- even by the likes of NewEgg. Their support is good (the few times I've had to use it) and their selection is usually pretty good (maybe a little less robust than NewEgg.) I've been using them exclusively for almost 5 years now and in that time have built close to a dozen complete systems from parts supplied by them.

Terraji, sounds like they're asking someone named "Widas" for customer service advice. (Only Animal will understand)

I got my shuttle from mwave, and their customer support got the job done when I changed my mind on the video card I was waiting for. No idea if they ship to you though.

bring stuff across the border + currency conversion = pain in the ass.

The extra fees on my card for USD conversion plus the extra in shipping would nullify any savings.

The plan is to go to my favorite local dealer, memoryexpress which sells shuttles and see if they can order this part in for me special. Since it is Socket A and basically discontinued, they may not be able to. I probably should have tried this option out first before TigerDirect. Live and learn, I guess.

If that doesn't work, I have already priced out some traditional case + PS + mobo solutions.

A pity really.

I heard a rumor today from a friend that newegg will be operating in Canada soon. Something like that is sorely needed since the only other half-reputable option to TigerDirect is ncix and their website blows.
