Extract the zip file to your half-life/cstrike/ folder - I'm sure Porter set it up so that the files will go into the right directories just make sure you tick the 'Use folders' option in WinZip.

Actually, extract to your Half-Life directory, they will get shunted into your cstrike dir on their own from there. otherwise, Grounded is dead on. The zip files contain a "Comment" that tell you how to install them as well. I would have thought people would notice that.

Can the map packs be put into ONE BIG file that can be downloaded all at once?

Also, the map packs are inconsistent in their file structure.  Some require you to extract the files differently than others (some assume a different starting directory for extraction).

It would be nice to have one big file with an automatic installer that puts the files in the right place.

This is not really an issue for me as I have already downloaded ALL the mappacks and installed them in the proper location.  But....it was a PITA having to keep track of where all the files were going...

I tried fixing your link Grail. You used the url tag instead of the ftp tag. Still doesn't seem to work though.

Well there is a link on the homepage from the News Board (There is a thread called "Massive Map Pack Now Available") to an all-inclusive map pack, and as far as I can tell (I just tested all the map packs I created) they all extract correctly if you target your Half-Life folder. The "zip comments" in each of the map packs point this out as well. Am I the only one that sets WinZip to display those by default?? Next time I'll stick to a readme I guess.

Did you remember to activate the "Use Folder Names" option Clocker?

Hmmm I use WinRAR.  Anyway, when those extractors ask you to select a directory, sometimes it is confusing which is the correct one to choose.  I do understand that the files come with a readme but I just though the whole process could be automated where the installer scans for the location of the cstrike or hl executable files and then extracts them to the correct location.

Like I mentioned, it's not really an issue to me as I've done them all already.  But, it would be a nice convenience for others in the future.  I'm guessing this could be done in VBasic or using the MSI installer (which I have no idea how)...

Round two of the map packs will probably include some self-install support. The maps are in a state of flux right now, so look for that in a week or so.

And just to clarify, the reason we don't have a full map pack available for download directly from CSR is because RG tends to get kinda cranky with massive bandwidth hogs, and I for one would rather stay on their good side. Thankfully Scrappy has provided a fast connection for us to host a full pack from.
