Once you have your door, paint over the area you want to be transparent with pure blue. Now in Wally (I presume you have Wally and have added your image to a new .wad file) find where your pure blue is in the palette and swap it's index with the colour in the bottom right position. Now rename your texture so that it begins with a { and then you're off.

Tex dimensions must be in multiples of 8. Blue must be pure i.e. 0 0 255 and it MUST be in the bottom right hand corner of the palette i.e. the 256th position. Since you had ladders in joust I assume you know to use Solid -> 255 for the entity render properties. Can't really think of anything else.

When you say 'didn't work' do you mean didn't work in the editor, didn't compile or didn't run in game?
