Wow, something serious in the BS forum...

This one is for Miscreant and the Alberta platoon of BS.

http://www.fragapalooza.com/

Miscreant told me that some of you went last year (and got owned with awps). The website just got updated for this year's event. I am interested in going this year. I suggest that we get together a team and participate in whatever Counter-Strike event that they have. We could organize a practice or two ahead of time and learn how to use those stinkin AWPs.

Also, if there is other decent games worth competing in, we could practice for those too. (hehehe, theres going to be a DOOM tourney  )

Any interest?

I registered too. You don't have to pay now, you can say that you will pay when you get there. I'd reccomend y'all do that now even if you arent sure you are able to go since there is a sweet raffle draw for the first 200 and 400 to register.

Thee was saying something about wanting to maybe get a room at the Mayfield inn. If there are enough of us splitting the cost, it wouldn't be that expensive for having a place to crash (and party), and not have to worry about hauling computers back and forth from home (its on the west end so it's almost an hour trip for us that live outside Sherwood Park). If this sounds like a good idea to enough people, I can get on finding how much it will cost and booking a room. It's best to book early since I am sure alot of people will get the same idea soon.

If some of you have issues convincing your parents to allow any of this to go down, I offer the fact that Miscreant and I are 3rd year University engineering students and are quite upstanding and responsible citizens and would make excellent chaperones. No really, we would. No lie.

Ya I'm up for staying at the Mayfield but first i have to do a background check on you two. The only real advantage to paying now is you can pick what seat you want rather than getting whatever is left over. Just tell me before, I'll convince my parents then send you the money to whoever. P.S someone help my karma!!!

Hey Miscreant, Ryan Berry is going to be there.

And Gilles St. Cyr (I bought textbooks from him)

Yea terraj me and dickie (trickster) well also split the cost, for a room. The sooner we can book the better i guess.

Quote:

Yea I have to agree they only have 30 blocks or something like that for fraga so sooner the better, we can alwasy cancel if need be.

The only thing you can really get for paying early is a reserved seat. It was funny, the prepaid people were waiting in line last year while the un paid people just walked in and signed up. I guess if we all want to sit togather we should pay. If im not mistaken the fee is only $50.00 right now and then its jumps a bit.

Any questions just ask i guess

The carpet was *not* white, it was brown. It was *not* a hotel, it was a condo. And besides, that was in a whole different province, and not to mention that was when I was 17 and on my grad ski trip. I would like to make something very clear. My heavy drinking days are over, and I plan on being very responsible on this particular weekend, but I am not opposed to a little rowdyness.

So from the Mayfield inn page, a basic 2 queen bed room is 124/night, and a suite is 154/night which gets you a queen bed in a separate room and a hide-a-bed in the main room ( the extra space might be worth the extra money). It is apparently a 4 star hotels, so I don't expect the rooms to be motel-tiny. The prices drop to 114 and 139 if you book through AMA which I do not know of anybody who is a member. If someones parents have an AMA membership, we could work it in to save a few bucks.

I know this sounds a little pricey, and for it to be reasonable, I think we'd need, at the very least, 5 people splitting.

Of course, with this I am assuming that nobody is opposed to bringing sleeping bags and making it one damn messy room for the weekend.

From this, I count 5 people that are tentatively in. We are missing Fooljeff's input. Holy Grail and Smokey are also welcome to get in on it if they wish.

As for the skill testing question. It is not neccecary for me to reveal the answer, since they even give you the brackets.

You got a math question? Nuts, math is my forte. My question was:

In which body of water did Parikinson (of the disease) drown?
A) His bathtub
B) Hudson Bay
C) Lake Michigan
D) A glass of gin
E) All of the above

But seriously the answer was 31337. You should have known you were right because it is leet for elite.

Thank you for clearing up your vomiting misshap Ter.

Man hotel rooms are expensive. MAybe we can bring a tent and set it up in the lobby.  Hopefully I'll have a summer job by then and be all bling-bling though.

The other good thing having paid is im in the registration complete part so i am in top 200 and have chance to be in the other draw for the high end videocard.

I am sure there are fire codes that limit the amount, but I was planning on politely telling them over the phone that the room is for two adults and two kids and then keeping the do not disturb sign on the door the whole time.

Ok, so I kind of discussed this with Miscreant today, and I understand that Jeff and he are going to a camp that was a potential source of conflict for going. New recent information told that that the camp starts the day after the last day of Fragapalooza.

Miscreant stated that he is now very sure that he will be going to fraga. Can I now assume the same for you Jeff?

I am asking this now, because if everyone is for sure going and aren't just messing around, I can be comfortable paying the fee now and getting entered into the draw without worry that you all are going to bail on me.

So, if you are committed to going, regardless of whether we get the room or not, please say so now and we can start making definite plans.

Dont worry im going for sure along with Trickey I believe.

Quote:

I dont see why we cant have 5 or more in a room aslong as we dont "distract" other people staying, besides im sure we will be blocked off along with the other fraga people which in all honesty well probably be pretty loud.

With or with out the room im still going. To be honest id rather not go home everyday and im willing to dish out the cash for a room.

Ill sign up next week, and as for the room terraji ill get back to you asap. We well only need the room for 3 days right?

thursday night, friday night and saturday night. Check out is at noon.

I will probably be working full time days by then and i plan on arriving thursday night and taking friday off of work.

If we count 150/ night thats $450 to split between us. With food and stuff I hope to keep the total cost per individual for the weekend under 200 bucks. sound good?

After browsing aroung the site i found that the rooms that they have reserved are 105/night for the deluxe. and 95/night superiour

I'm sure those are going to go fast. If 3 people beyond me and thee give me the green light now I will jump on it.

NO it starts on the last day i believe. Which means I will leave the night before probably. If misc bothers going to the earlier stuff, (which shouldn't matter) then he will have to a day earlier. I will give the commitment flag as soon as i can. But right now i am very delusional and should not be typing.

I'm commited to going room or no room. Room would be nice i'll probably get back to you saturday or sunday about getting a hotel room. We should probably book a hotel room within the next two weeks or so if we get enough people commited.

There is one guy from texas signed up. There is no reason why they would turn you away.

For this event, I really wish I was more skilled since the prizes for the tournaments are huge. (complete systems, fancy video cards ect.)

I you feel ambitious, and have the cash, you could organize for a bunch of your easterners to get a big honkin' motorhome or something and haul all the way up here for the 4 days. Of course I don't expect you to, but it would be cool if you did.

Yes CruncyChicken they are going to have 4 different bands and they are trying to get G-Unit to stop by too. I am getting ready to rock! Also I have a friend who has a backstage pass so hopefully I get to meet Genne Grantlet(Lead Singer for Meatkey) in person.

Biggums if your eastreners came up im sure you would make it to the final, most of the teams that make it into the double elimination are cal im cal i, and the winner is this supposeably a CPL team. If you havent read me and smokey lost to them last year.

Who ever is coming we should start to practice by next week since we are going to need it.

And Crunchy i really dont think they will make it one more day. The price would come up a fair amount.
P.S Who are you?

yeah thats cool.  Yeah it would be cool to go to a huge event like that.  But i don't know enough good players near buy that are willing to make that trip, but hey ya never know maby i can get something toghter.

It looks like it would be mad fun.  Just wish i had the money for it easily available, but if i can get a team toghter that is willing to go.  I'd be down.  But looking at the map thats like driving cross country.  We'd have to fly and thats to expensive.  We'll i'd be up for the road trip.  Would be awsome if we had a camper or something.  But something like that i would need to have like cal i players going.  Anyway you all have a good time.

Get him to play with us on CSR. That is, if he is into counterstrike.

I am pretty sure Jeff and Misc will be there for fraga, but I know Misc never commits to doing anything until the absolute last minute. If only they kept us updated so we have something to work with.......

According to a poll on the fraga site cs won't be a tourney it only had 4% of the votes and unreal tournament had 48% and there was 5 games ahead of cs. But only 49 people voted on the poll so who knows.

The tournaments were decided for fraga they will be:
-Unreal Tournament 2004  1 on 1
-Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne  2 on 2
No CS!!!!

May 30 2004
Tournaments Announced - 10:19 MST - code red
After reviewing the results from this year's tournaments poll, the tournaments for this year's event have been officially decided. They are as follows:

Unreal Tournament 2004 - 1 on 1
Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - 2 on 2

This year, we have decided to place a greater emphasis on fun tournaments, and as such, we will be running 2 tournaments instead of 3. This decision will free up time on the tournament machines for us to host a wider array of fun tournaments. We have noted that this decision was also partially based upon the fact that there was a significant percentage of the tournament votes that requested "no tournament".

These votes were in many ways representative of the origins of Fragapalooza, as they yet again reminded us that we are an event designed to bring friends together in the spirit of fun. Although active competition has developed into an excellent feature of our events, we must remind ourselves of what brought us to this point in the first place. The friendship and fun that fuels the lanparty environment. This decision will allow us to dedicate more of our resources to this essential aspect of the event.

Its not like we had a shot of winning anyway. I think the fun tourneys would be cool to compete in anyway.

I say we do this 5 on 5 tourney this weekend and see how that goes before we decide how serious we are for fraga. I think I am going to email everyone about it now.

Let me get this straight, you cant make it, AND it is because you might be driving a 9 month pregnant lady around sherwood park.

Please, Please do the responsible thing! An unborn infant's life is at stake here.

I'm just a little cautios now since there wasn't very much interest in the crosshairs tournament.
I want to go, I just need assurances that you all are committed, which I have been trying to get for a good while now and have failed.

So basically, I am in if there is a rest of the team that is in.
