The mic I have initially really sucked and I blamed it since I bought it for ten dollars several years ago. But the real reason it didn't work was because I was using my integrated motherboard audio (sadly now deceased. see motherboard stabbing thread). The same crappy mic worked perfectly for gaming purposes once I used it with a proper sound card (old pre-5.1 Sound Blaster Live)

I'd reccomend making sure you have adequate sound hardware before shelling out for a better mic.

Thanks guys, the help is greatly appreciated. I'll look around for a better deal. My hardware appears to be more than adequate (SB Live card) for the job.

I bought mine at wal-mart for like $14, and it works fine...I think software configuration is more important then quality of mic, in general.

I have a pair of high-end plantronics (plantronics.com) headphones which I LOVE.  Unfortunately, I bought them at a time when mics weren't intergrated into the headphones like they are now.  So I ended up buying a MS Gamevoice I guess about 3 1/2 years ago and while it's sound quality is nowhere good as a serious set of headphones, it's lasted for over 3 years of hardcore use.

If you had the money though, I'd get a set of plantronics.  Good stuff.

I'm looking to go all out on this, since my plans for a new guitar have been pushed back a couple of months. Stupid dealers don't carry Parkers and nobody on the internet has the one I want . Again thanks everybody for the input, though I don't think I'm gonna swipe one from my school.

Parker NiteFly M Flametop in a spiffy blue burst, but since none of the inferior retailers have it, I have come to a new decision. Carvin DC400 in an Emerald Quilt top. I get all the features I wanted and then some. Although it doesn't have the distinct look of a Parker , It's pretty in its own right. Price is better and I'm going to get it sooner even though its a custom shop order.

Oh when it arrives in 8-10 weeks(?) or so, don't expect me on CSR for a long while.  Though I'll probably post pictures when I get it.

I'm actually going to order it tommorow (Thrusday) because MLCC had me going crazy tonight.

I was aware of that, but if you click availability you'll see that unfortuantly it won't be availabe for a few months. Thanks for the help though Fotty, but I just orderd my Carvin. And in 12 weeks (stupid koa wood but hey custom guitar, what are you gonna do?) I will be the proud owner of one hell of an axe.

PS: I realize the wait between the Parker and Carvin is similar, but a custom guitar at a better price ($1568) can't be beat. I really had only one option....

Nice, wish I had more to my collection to my Ibanez, and Squire Strat (its in 15 pieces). Obviously not counting the Carvin, because I don't get it for a couple of months. But when I become a rock star I will own many expensive guitars and cars.

I didn't say you did. I'm just pointing out that the solution you presented isn't exactly feasible or practical.
