Cannot connect to Steam

I have just purchased CS and have installed it into my computer. Then I downloaded the updated Steam version. But, when I click on the icon it gives me an error and says that it cannot connect. Any suggestions???

Try going to exit and logout and then restarting steam.

there are more then enough people on these fourms to help you out! Just have to wait for them to crawl out of bed and or recover from drukeness and or come home.
Sorry i dont know, steam pisses me off at the best of times

Eni, you just hosted it right here on CSR! (Which is where I prefer EVERYONE hosts their sigs, despite my complaints about the space.)
By uploading it, you put it on the CSR webserver, which means to use it, all you need is the URL. You can usually get that by right-clicking on the image after you upload it and choosing something like "Copy image location" from the context menu. Then use that URL in your sig line.
For example, this image you uploaded is located at:
http://www.csreloaded.com/attachments/Gauntlet_tag.jpg

You might want to scale the quality down a bit though-- at 40KB, it's HUGE for a sig image.
To give you an idea, I was able to get it down to 6KB with very little loss in quality:

It's a considerate thing to do, so everybody who has to read threads with tons of sig image in it doesn't have to wait for 15 big pictures to download.

I can't ever connect to friends - its always down for maintainance 
I thought something had to work before you could "maintain" it? Surely the message should read "You cannot connect to friends as it does not work - please do not try again later as it wil not work then either!" 
At least then I wouldn't get so angry when I can't connect day after day after day............
