monitor problems...again

my monitor makes this high-frequent noise, much more intense than you are used to hear from a muted tv...is there anything which could help lower this noise, cause it's become an annoyance..

oh btw. sometimes I can stop the noise for a short time by adjusting the monitor sideways and up and down...maybe this could help any of you to find out what's the problem

Did you try de-gaussing it? If not, try a lower refresh rate. It's usually one of these two things doing it in my experience, especially if it's an older monitor.
I've found that hitting mine usually works well too.

YEah I degauss mine pretty frequently (15"), of course I do get that whine occassionally from the crt, but I do like porter says and give it a good stiff jab right next to the power button (around where the panel is for the monitors controls). I hear a slight click (sounds springy), then the noise goes away.
Of course sometimes I also turn it off and back on and it helps too. I also found having unshielded speakers next to a monitor can also cause high pitched whining...read that as interference in the sound setup.

Do you have anything with magnets near the monitor. (Cordless phones) (Large speakers) etc. If they are unshielded this could cause monitors to operate out of the norm. Sounds like something like that could be causing interferance seeing how you move the monitor and it goes away.

I don't have any kind of magnetic devices near the monitor...I saw the result of that on my littlebrothers screen...but that was fixed by degaussing...

What happens if you move around the cable at the back of your monitor that goes to your video card in your pc? Or what happens if you move around the cable that plugs into your video card? does the problem get worse or better? I recently had a friend with the same issue and the cable at the back of the monitor was giving out. Hope its not that.

I tried moving the cable at the back of the monitor around a little, and it helped...but if I play halflife and it starts, I merely have to hit escape, then it stops...and once I enter the game again it starts...therefore I'd say it isn't the back of the monitor giving out, but again I don't really know much about monitors
