Admin vs Regulars Game (v2) ?
« on: February 13, 2005, 02:21:51 PM »

Something like this went off once before, (check pasts topics on the news board) and it apparently was a rockin' good time for all involved. Since I missed out on the first one, I suggest we have a second, grander version, that doesn't fall on a Sunday. So I'm asking would anyone be interested in it?

This is the recap thread for the last game: http://www.csreloaded.com/yabbse/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=1344

Twas the premiere of cs_reloaded_b3 and I seem to remember getting properly owned by all and sundry. Perhaps this time, seeing as there's no new cs_reloaded on the horizon, the final map of the night can be de_remy_final...if I ever finish it...

I saw the recap. There is also the original sign up shee/news post on how it was run.

The only thing I really care about is the maps we play. I refuse to play standard maps in this. This should be about team work and helping each other out, not camping and baiting your teamates.

I say we do it like this • 3 maps (votes should be put up), cal config (24 round a map) • the awp, and a private game using hltv to make a demo so everyone can dl it and see it + a sine up sheet for the regulars team

yes to everything but the AWP.
the cal config might be a nightmare if we have a 10v10 game as far as getting people switched after 12 rounds and such.

Cal config?

Keeping the same setting we have now shouldn't present a problem?

It will basically be the same was as the last one, including the sign up sheet (doesn't guarantee you a spot, admins reserver the final choice assuming more that 10 people sign up).

Reference: I still want to cook some ribs.

I don't want something to think something.

I prefer to travel incognito.

Why is the awp even an issue? It's banned on the server and will remain that way.

Drama queen.  SG loves the drama.  Loves it.  He will play because I'll swordbomb him into it.

Also - just to set the record straight is it true that Deuce has been living in a shoe for the past few weeks, crafting miniature wicker furniture and selling it to passing motorists?  If so put me down for 3 futons and a china cabinet.

You forget, your swordbomb is no match for my roast beef.

How on earth could you make a functioning futon out of wicker?!?!? That would be quite a feat.

I'm gonna be totally honest here, I don't really know what a futon is.  I thought it was like a footstool for a minute then vaguely remembered something about it being like a bed meets a couch...perhaps...

Roast beef does make a mighty fine sandwich but it also causes 89.5% of bicycle versus fire hydrant accidents so it is clearly a health hazard.  That's a fact.  To paraphrase a discussion I once had with SG: "Tuna is better than Roast Beef but it does leave you with bad breath...the Penbomb IS mightier than the Swordbomb."

I think I won that argument.  What?  Stop looking at me swan.

Nope no snowball either, never was allowed any of that stuff when I was a kid. Hell the only cereal I got was Cheerios and Rice Krispies.  Then when I got a job and had my own money I never even thought to buy them in the store.

Incidentally, since slight's ftp space is back up, the old screenshots from the last admin vs. regular game have reappeared on this page:

I particularly enjoy the first one in which Skip has somehow self-killed

Dude, if you didn't pick fights with people that have been here forever and liken yoursefl to Moses while claiming to do more for the community then one of the guys that basically keeps this forum and the server running you wouldn't feel this way. I could go on but I know it won't do any good we've been down this road more than once.

deuce also points out that talking in third person does get annoying after awhile. deuce suggests that stopping this would quicken the act of less hostility.

deuce wants to play deuceball on the admin vs reg matchup. deuce also prefers sunday night.

I never pick fight, I just am not afraid to talk, other are way too serious here!  My point was as much time as I put in here and for what I am really not one of the gang, most admins dis like me.  I am considering taking my time and money else where.  Moses dude the flock will follow, a lot of them!  I am more fun and more of a team player than most!  I just do not see a reason for me to stick around, I do not get any credit for what I have done here and it seems to be a clicky group that really does not like me anyways.  With the time and money i have at my disposal i could go put my time in and be more involved with the community.  Here I just get people to play have a good time, grow my clan and that could be done any place.  Eni is thinking of his own server, so I can be able to implement what the community really wants.  I got plenty of time and money and see this CSR server has a click that i do not have any chance with...

Eni is thinking of his own server, so I can be able to implement what the community really wants.  I got plenty of time and money and see this CSR server has a click that i do not have any chance with...

I think you should try it. Seriously. If you have 90 dollars a month to blow, go for it. Seriously. I have no doubt you could whip a server up with AdminMod, StatsMe, a stats package like PsychoStats of HLstats, and a decent website. Seriously. And actually, ReconGamer has all sorts of handy webpage control panels for installing most of this stuff! Seriously. I have no doubt you could pull something off. Seriously. This stuff isn't all that hard, providing you have the time to do it. Seriously. So yeah, go for it. Seriously. And if you think I'm kidding or being sarcastic or a jackass or something, I'm really not, I swear. Seriously.

It actually is pretty easy to set up a server w/pluggins etc...

the hardest part would be the $$ and the website with integrated stats

Well if you've got ideas for CSR, don't hold back. Everyone knows that despite my best intentions, I don't have nearly the time I wish I did to devote to CSR. If there's something you'd like to see happen, and you can do it, I'll do whatever I can to help.

see it was a little easy the way we did it...first of all we built and owned the deticated server and had gamedeamon host it...but the real dream was having a desktop connection to run our server its like being in the box....desktop connection is the way to go for ease of maintenance

I haven't encountered anything I couldn't do remotely. Of course, I'm a hardcrore server admin-- I use linux servers. Besides, GUIs are for babies.

I don't think that makes you a nub. Especially not if you were managing 14 servers. Besaides, my argument is purely on a technical level.

For example, can you imagine how much bandwidth you're sapping from your GAME when you run things like RDC or VNC??? Not that it's all THAT much, but a good command line is gonna be TONS faster in terms of responsiveness and command density if you know what you're doing. And that's not to say I don't use desktop connections on a daily basis-- I can get to my home machine(s) from anywhere on campus with my laptop and VNC, but then I have a gigabit ethernet backbone supporting me.

I guess I just fail to see what makes a desktop connection so much easier for managing a game server. For example, I can mount CSR's directories on my local machine, and edit files and configs from here, without having to send an entire 1024x768 bitmap representing a Windows Desktop to my machine 15 times every second. What's more, because I can mount the ftp directories anywhere, I don't have to use Windows for my GUI, and with RDC, you do.  (<-- that's the end of this argument right there! Zing! )

for one windows based server its no easier but when u got 14 and u can have them all in one directory...to me its alot easier to make updates and map changes and so forth...especially when I no nothing of linux...all I know is cut and paste

but i know linux is the true way to go latancy wise...but i kow nothing about it

Nicky you could help me with things then with your past experience!  $90.00 a month is cheaper than I thought it was!  Dam charge Admin rights at $10.00 a month per admin and soon your paying $30.00 a month!  Nicky if you can help I am way down for that, so let me know!  BTB could use it's own site also!  I ahve plenty of money and CS is a hoby for me and have plenty of time to spend on it, plus your retired already right Nicky!  LOL!  Dude let me know I am so down, all the time I spend at CSR is getting me no where.  I would love to see how many people come to hang out with Eni the crazy guy and Nicky who always chants "COME GET SOME!  LOL

Yeah, good luck with THAT. It's hard enough to get people to volunteer for that job, much less people who are willing to pay. Plus, if you do it that way, you're going to end up with admins that *are* willing to pay for power, instead of people who feel a strong responsibility to their game and community. I think you'll have people like StealthMode as admins from the get go, and that's an obvious recipe for disaster. Come to think of it, Eni and SM might end up getting along pretty well....

EIDT:: That's not to say that you should let me discourage you. I can't afford to conduct that kind of experiment on my own (a pay-for-admin scheme that is), but I would be HIGHLY interested in seeing the results of trying such a thing, and if you have the capital to invest, I'd love to watch how it pans out.

Porter as much as an idiot and mean spirited person you think I am, you are so far off it's funny.  Kind of really FKIN PSSes me off the time and energy EVERY FKIN NIGHT at you server!  I am keeping it fun, even, not allowing mean people or swearing and often with no help because no admin is on!  You really are out of touch, the same reason I do it here every night at CSR is the same reason I would not allow just anybody those rights!  An as soon as I ad somebody report something like what happened witrh me and Surg, would either be punished and made to make an apolagy up to loosing those rights.  You really are amazing!

Get me, when you put a lot of time and energy into something you expect to be part of something nto this kind of crap, no wonder so many have come and gone this should be a private server thats the attitude here!

Edit: We don't need that picture.

Well this is spiraling out of control and I haven't even said anything.

If you want an admin/regulars game, someone else take care of it.

That's why I want you to start your own server. If you really believe you can do better, what exactly are you waiting for? It's not like you need permission from a lowly unintelligent, poor, lacking-a-hot-wife peon like me.

EIDT:: Ah, the thread got locked. Probably for the better. Eni, you can always PM me if you want to continue verbally berating someone. Just don't start a new thread to continue a closed discussion, because that probably will get you banned from the forums.
