Has an admin section been created?  If so can I have access?  If not can we do that?

Its the little things I like to complain about

I for one always disliked the idea of a "closed" forum. Almost entirely because in a community like CSR, and any important decisions to be made or discussions to be had, should be had by everybody.

So to answer you question MM, no there are no hidden boards here. We can create an admin board, and protect it so that only admins can post, but unless everyone thinks otherwise, I for one would prefer that it remain open for everybody to read. (This level of control will be dependent on a mod to YaBBSE that is still in active development though.)

I hope it is clear enough that this is only my personal opinion on the matter, and if the community wants its admins to have a place to talk that they can't see and monitor, then one will happily be created.

Do we have a definitive list of who is still considered an "admin" around here? Actually, let me re-phrase that into two questions: Do we have a list of who is considered part of the overall CSR Administrative Staff? and: Do we have a list of all those who will be acting as part of the in-game Admin Team?

And for that matter, have we decided on any good way to get people in and out of these two groups? As I recall, Ribs volunteered to lead the Admin Team-- I would be very content to leave it to him to "hire" and "fire" in-game admins. Goodness knows we could use a good couple of them now that the server is starting to fill up!

I have also been getting requests from some people about wanting to join the "in-game" Admin Team and complaints from others who would very much like to see a better watch being kept on the games being played in the server because of incidents that have already occurred.

This is another topic that should probably added to the list of things to "get done," eh?

I understand your point, but at the same time, I'd still like to have a private board to talk about certain stuff.  Such as what anti-hacking software we are putting on.  Maybe we can make two boards, one for general admin stuff, and one private.  In any case, I think maybe just put up a vote for everyone to decide.

A "job-related" admin-only board is a necessity in order to preserve goodwill.  On CSR there would often be a lot of discussion about specific players for a lot of reasons, from hacking accusations to personality problems, and it wouldn't be fair to have that accessable by people at large...simply because people get tarred, and also because admins shouldn't have to fear being hassled doing their jobs.  In fact I think a lot of grief at CSR v1 was caused by what should have been private conversation being "leaked", to the detriment of all parties involved.

As far as admin team, I'm still here and it's my baby.   Now that we have a workin site I'm going to start working on getting that admin team together.  I'm going to throw up a short list of people off the top of my head to ask to admin, then accept nominations...but I'm reserving final nay/yea rights so that if there are any problems they're only my fault.  Once we have a stable group of steady admins I'd like to see about making the process as friendly as possible, but let's face it...it's not a reward, it's a duty, and we all want people who are going to do the job best in the role.

Well said Ribs! I'm glad you're on top of the admin team thing! I do agree with you that when it comes to discussing how to deal with raucous players in-game, a private board for admins to go over the situaiton is a good idea. Get a list of your admins together and we'll set up a board for the in-game admins only. (That is, as long as the community wills it.)

I'd still like to keep the board for the overall CSR Administrative Team open for everybody to read though. I think being able to talk about someone in a place where they can't see (like a private board) actually encourages gossip, slander, and the kind of events that happened on CSRv1. It divides the community into factions when we're trying to become a closer-knit group.    ...Better to know that you will be held accountable by the community for your voiced words and personal actions, just like in real life. This is exactly what the internet strips away from relationships-- you don't ever have to look the person you're speaking ill about in the eye, and that allows people to get away with things they would never even think about doing in real life. As I said, better to know that you will be held responsible (as each of us should be).

Ryo, I think it's time to create a couple new Polls! One: Should the in-game admin team have a private forum to discuss matters concerning the policing and protection of our game server? and two: Should the forum for the Administrative Team be closed to everyone except members, or should the community be allowed to have read-access to it?

PS: Can we agree on names for the in-game admin group and the overall administrative staff? "Game Admins" and "Staff Members" perhaps? Something that would be easy to make forum membergroups out of?

remember that meeting that we had a while back?  the one on what we are goin to do? and we split up duties into "Server Team"  "Website Team"  "Events Team" (or something like that).  And what i recall is that the server team had sub divisions that included the admin team that would police the server.  We all had heads of each team and i forget who was the head of what.  I belive that Heaven, Justboy, and myself were the head of the Events team (the tournement thing and i forget what else were our duties, anyone remember?).  Now i have a couple of questions.  One, is the information that i just regurgitated from a couple a monthes ago accurate?  Two, what are the specific duties of each Team.  Are we even going to make such "Teams"?  Three, are all heads of the 3 teams have admin powers?  Or is it just the Admin-Team that has powers?  Four, is there still an overall CSR Team that looks over and monitors everything?  Remeber how we had a "plan" if you wanna say, on how to decide conflicting matters and stuff, does anyone remeber the specifics in what we decided?  Ok those are my questions, now the real tricky part is answering them!! hehe

Re private vrs. non-private:

I see no reason why the vast majority of Team CSR/admin/whatever conversation cannot be public knowledge.  The only things that I would suggest being kept quiet are things like "I got an email that someone is accused of cheating...watch them"...which if public knowledge either cause the person to lie low if they are a cheater, to be (rightfully) upset for the accusation if they are not, and get the accuser in the middle of a flame war.  If no such forum is set up, the discussion will still go one, but be carried out through PM and email, which I find terribly inconvenient when the private forum method can allow all who should be in the know know.

The rest of "server business" I can't imagine that needs to be private...as long as they are "serious info only" forums...kept on-topic and not fluffed up with useless banter such as I or Ace sometimes seem to spam.

So we're right on track then.
  • One board for the Admin Team (meaning everybody with admin powers in-game) that can only be viewed by that group.
  • One board (maybe a whole Category with boards for each department?) for the CSR Staff that can be viewed by anyone, but can only be posted in by Staff Members.

Ayo-- I don't know where the "plan" we discussed a couple months ago stands. So may things have changed since then anyway, I don't even think it would still fully apply to CSR's situation. Here's what I know about who belongs where. Please correct me wherever necessary. (I sure hope I haven't missed anybody!)
  • CSR Staff
    • Server Management Dept.
      • MysteryMachine
    • Events Dept.
      • Heaven
      • Justboy
      • ayo
    • Website Management Dept.
      • (Ryo)
      • SupaFly
      • Neo sable
      • AvatarSlayer
    • Custom Programming Dept.
      • Porter
    • Admin Team (in-game group)
      • Ribs
      • (Whoever else Ribs "hires")
    • Mapping and Map Playtesting Dept.
      • Slightcrazed
    • Financial Security Dept.
      • (yu^rei)
    • (Unplaced?)
      • P5-133XL

Ribs-- please get your preliminary list to Daniel or I whenever you have it ready. Real name, email address (no hotmail if possible), forum name, and WONID would be good information to have for each person.

Hey....what's wrong with hotmail?

Nothing really, but I have a Hotmail account, and I know what my Inbox looks like every morning. It's too likely that someone will just select the forty spam messages in a row (with an important message from someone at CSR in the middle!) and delete them all.  That's a lot less likely to happen with your ISP-provided email address.

The only reason we need it is to be able to effectively communicate official CSR business. We don't have an designed on sending spam or anything.

Alright, two quick questions, whats the ETA on the admins forum.. and the ETA on the admins site.  I got some private stuff I would like to convey to TCSR.  Nothing that needs to be done ASAP, but I would like to let them be aware of some stuff no the less.

Ryo, I'm sending half the pics now, and half tomorrow for the site.
