Wireless router help

Can anyone suggest a good wireless router that I could buy? We will probably have 2 desktop computers and 3 laptops that it would have to deal with, and I figured it was better than a bunch of wires going through the house. But I know nothing about which ones are good or bad so any input would be greatly appreciated!

I know Staples has some good linksys wireless routers, maybe netgear too if i remember correctly. (I work there, but i don't stock that area i just sell that stuff ;-) )
Wireless = crap for gaming though, it rapes your ping seriously. If you're just surfing/dl'ing stuff then wireless should be fine for you. actually let me go look at the wireless router we have here

Netgear, model WGT624 v2. This one is good because it supports wireless as well as like 6 ports for cables, so if you wanted to keep a couple wired for whatever reason it meets both needs

I have that exact Netgear Router at my parents place, it's solid.
I completely agree with what Kaoz said about it raping your ping though. If you have the money, it might be good to get a normal router and then use something like an apple express to plug into that hardline router and still give you wireless support.
My order of priority is exactly what Kaoz said though, LinkSys, then Netgear, then that Apple Express. I haven't actually had an Apple Express, but they have some pretty slick features, including routing iTunes on your computer to a full Stereo system. Though, that express is about $129.00.
If there is anything you read of this post read this. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY A D-LINK PRODUCT. I have a pretty good understanding of networks and what not thanks to the education Porter has been giving me lately, however, these people tried to do everything they could to give me the round around on the phone when I needed customer support. Telling me it was my windows machine 99% of the time. Thank god I had a mac and a working linux machine at the time to tell them to flip off with, otherwise I would have went insane...

I have a linksys router that does the trick for me. I played cs over it with my laptop a few months ago. It was pretty stable and I didn't get major spikes, though if you want to play games, and can go wired I'd highly suggest it (as would everyone else).

Thanks guys, this has been very helpful! I don't imagine we'll be doing much gaming - mostly college related research, surfing, etc. But that being said it would be extremely frustrating to have a router that wasn't dependable.
The one with the ports actually sounds good, Kaoz. Do you make commission? If so which Staples are you at?
If anyone else wants to give their two cents the more info the better!

I made my own one from tin foil and pipe cleaners. It doesn't work but it sure does look shiny.

Mine randomly reassigned it's default gateway, and dropped all computers that were on the network, it wouldn't re-issue an IP address to any of the computers on my network. Three techies tried to tell me that I needed to download a Windows Socket Fix, i asked for their managers since i had four different platformed machines (win2k, winxp, linux, and mac) and asked if they could explain how my mac and linux computer needed to fix their Windows Sockets...they went through exactly what happened again, and what I'd tried, and again told me to fix my windows sockets, i asked for their manager over three times a piece before I finally got upgraded to a "higher level tech" who apparently knew what he was talking about. He had me reset my router, which lost all of my settings and then couldn't connect to my ISP (Yahoo! DSL), the techie then said he was sorry, but that it was a defective product and he couldn't do anything but send us the same model (a G-class wireless router with 4 hardlines in the back), and that he couldn't guarantee that it would be any better as they are all prone to this same problem. So...yeah...hope it works for you, but on of their own techies telling me that it was unreliable at best didn't make me feel like getting another one of their products.
I should also point out that we've had tons of problems with their actual wireless PCI cards, and one of their USB wireless jobbers too. The software they use to connect to routers and establish/configure WEP encryption is also sketchy at best. Good luck with it, and good luck if you ever need tech support.
All my Netgear and LinkSys products have worked flawlessly, and the one time i've had to contact Netgear they were very helpful.
I'd suggest LinkSys if you have a choice though, their port forwarding/triggering seems much more effective and customizable then Netgears though. But they are both solid products.

SMC is awesome. We have gone through 2 linksys, 1 D-Link and 1 SMC barricade. Of all of them, the SMC is the only one that doesn't need resetting once or twice a week. It needs it maybe once every two months or so. I havn't reset it all summer, but we had a few power outages, so I guess that would have reset it for me. 
The newest linksys was a wireless and needed resetting the most. The settings used on all of them are the default settings, with DHCP and DNS (assign and obtain) enabled.
