I've only played westwood once, but it was pretty cool and very memorable. It was an entire spaghetti western town with plenty of rooftop and street level shootouts. I am sure alot of your would find tons to hate about it, but if we can play scoutzknivez, I am sure we can play this.

I like bikini but I've not really had the pleasure of playing any of the others.

Even cs_reloaded I've NEVER played on the server except for maybe once or twice with stu in the early stages.  Bikini, Deuceball, and Just are the only custom maps I've played on this server and I loved them all everytime they've been on - particularly de_just, because there were some randoms on who were like "I don't know where to go" and "whats this stupid map" and everyone was like "Its dust, it just looks different" - so quality striking down their anti-custom map attitude in such a degrading way!

Imagine slagging off a map and then finding out that appart from a few tweaks and different textures its the same as one of the maps they probably spend half their life playing (and they didnt even notice) - Classic

Definitely de_remy in finished version and also before the tower was taken away by the mapmaker.  He is a right goof.

Anything by Stroggos rocks, as_tigris is a beaut.

I played an amazing de_mice map set in a kitchen once but I can't remember it's name exactly.

Of the officials I like de_torn and de_airstrip.

Westwood wasn't anything special though people flocked to the server to play it. It also said de_predator was unavailable to play.

Yeah that was really mad SG - I logged onto the server cos I'd been having lag problems on others, so I wanted an empty server where I could play with my rates.

Within seconds you were on - that wasn't such a surprise in itself

But within 2 or 3 rounds there were suddenly 3v4 and 4v5 and as you say it didnt take long to get quite busy!!  I liked the map so I'm glad I joined for my solo rates test!! 

Shame I had to answer the phone tho - cos it was good fun!

Yeah, I have. The one I played had both hostages and a bombsite or two, as well as driveable vehicles. It was fun to just tool around and not really play, but I think it sucked as an objective map.

The root of the "pfft" stems from your disregard for the subject of my thread. Favorite Non-Standard maps. Those two are included with the offical maps, hence then being standard and hence not applying to this discussion.

On that note, I like torn and it is very under appreciated, though I do not like airstrip as the bomb sites are miles apart. But to each their own...

Nobody really communitcates on a public server and both teams are generally not split evenly at each bombsite on a public server such as ourselves. But when a bunch of cts start to get mowed down on dust2, you start haulin' ass, you can get there with enough time to make a difference. Dust2 flat out plays better than airstrip. Though I haven't timed it (I have played it quite bit), I think it's safe to say it takes about 30-45 seconds to go from one bombsite to another going the quickest route. The c4 timer usually goes off in that time span. It's layout is bad, even the person who made the map said he'd like to remake that map (so I've heard, I don't feel like looking for where I saw it/or who told me, so it might not even be true but I'm fairly confident it is.)

People are lazy asses and don't learn maps. I'll agree with you there.

I would estimate that it is more like 20-30 seconds. 45 is way high.

dust2 is straightforward enough and people know it well enough that even in the absense of communication, the process of elimination is working for you. The routes in airstrip are a bit more complex, but in essence, there are only two main routes for the T's to go, which are not bad odds for the CT's to defend. Airstrip is a very good teamwork map, which I like to think suits this server.

Hadn't noticed.

Either way its way to high to be effective.

Personally, I know my way around and radar tells me enough that any map I can have a general idea as to where people died and where I need to be. The routes in airstrip are straight forward yet extremely far apart. Go and cover one of them and if you guess wrong you're toast if your team can't hold them off for the 30 seconds or so it takes you to get over there. \

As for teamwork, if both CT and T's are on the same pages respectively CTs aren't in a good position. In a 4v4 game, two cts on each route and the T's rush one way with all four. You either need to be set up good or a better shot but you'r emore than likely to lose half your team.

I'm a big fan of teamwork (unless it means camping which i'll have none off. Playing conservitavely is fine by me though.) and maps that support it are good. Airstrip is just a poor map all the way around.

1000 - played SG

We had some good custom map games going last night - rio, suntower, predator. I enjoyed all of them And all three were voted on.

CS-Nation: Airstrip is one of your more recent maps, and for whatever reason it didn't quite take off. What do you think was the cause of that? Did it influence how you designed Aztec2?

narby: I think it was just a horrible layout. The timing was off and didn't really allow players to make forward progress very easily. It's a level I'd like to re-visit later and make some significant changes to.

I'm currently adding narby's map de_quarry to the server...

Thee have you played the new aztec2? Not the only crap one that we used to have on the server.

Edit - You probably have to delete the old file, assuming you haven't already deleted it due to the fact it's a total bummer.
