Seperating Audio From a Video

I have this sweet VH concert video on my computer and I'd like to make an audio track from it. The obvious method that Animal and I thought of was playing the video and have an audio recorder running at the same time. It works but it's not something I feel like doing at the moment. A basic google search didn't turn up anything useful but I'm sure a program exists for such a chore. Anyone have any ideas?

Ahem.
Yeah you could easily make audio tracks by recording them in real time as the video plays, but that's gonna be slow if it's a long concert. You can get converter progs for just about any combination of formats, so all you need to do is search for "format1 to format2" in Google and trawl the results (so say "mpeg to wav" or you could try "export audio from mpeg" or whatever). VirtualDub is a good freeware prog for lots of video applications, but I can't remember if you can use it to export audio. I suspect you can.

...almost useful.
It wouldn't let me import my video file...something about using a MS codec and lawsuits.
I'd look furthur into the problem but I'm going away until thursday.

Sorry guy, what this means is that your video is probably encoded as a wmv with DRM encription. The only program I know of that allows you to decode it is (ready for this?) Windows Media Player. Good luck finding something to extract the audio digitally from that. You're probably stuck doing it the slow way (re-encoding during playback by using your sound cards duplex ability), and you have no one to thank but the recording industry and MicroSuck. The days of "owning" anything on your computer are fast drawing to a close.
My advice? Stick to standard formats and avoid wmv like the plague.

Quicktime Pro does this kind of thing really well. That's assuming that the file isn't encoded in some proprietary MS format of course. If you can convert it to a standard MPEG movie, you can extract an audio track out of it very easily with QT Pro. The Pro version isn't free, but even I hate Apple's policy about buying keys to unlock it. They charge you with every new version! I've paid for the same feature set twice with version 4 and 5! So now, I just find pirated keys (it's not hard).

I certainly wouldn't chose WMV if I had the choice. I obtained it in much the same way as Porter get his serial keys.
If I have to put up with MS to listen/see Van Halen, that's a sacrafice I'd make in a heart beat. 
EDIT: MY HERO
BEST PROGRAM EVER. That's some damn fine work right there.
Now all I need is a program to chop it up for me. That can wait for now though.

We've learned a few things here.
1) Video to Audio Converter is worth whatever they're asking for the full version.
2) You probably could do it on a Mac without much trouble.
3) You probably couldn't play the video on the Mac at all.
..And finally Van Halen + Microsoft = explosion of goodness.
