Optional Equipment, and nextmap

Two things....

First is the optional equipment button...I know I'm probably the only person who uses this button, because I'm the only who has mentioned it.  But when I push the O button when buying I don't always get the same stuff, I was hoping that could be looked into...

Secondly, I had an idea of a plugin...it would use the result of nextmap to make sure we didn't get the same map twice.  That is, if an admin changes the map to say de_dust, but the nextmap result was also de_dust it could automatically change the map to whatever is after de_dust (instead of us playing dust for two maps in a row)  or it could even just extend dust (instead of us having to reconnect in the middle of the map)...just a suggestion though.

I don't think any of those should be too hard...but let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I too have a problem with the equipment menu button/hotkey thing. Like I can't always buy a defuse kit on ct, and hence why I never buy one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may or may not still be a quirk in the weapon restrictions code. I'm sure you've all experienced an inability to change teams or use radio commands?

I am investigating/testing the latest edition of the plugin. I'll be in touch.

The tricky part is writing a plugin that makes sure you can't use a menuselect to buy and awp, but still allows you to use one to say "Need backup". Not an easy task. Apparently the designer of our restrictions plugin hasn't got it quite right. This thing is a beast of a plugin though, and I'm not about to try to start hacking at it myself. I'll post in the AdminMod forums about it though, since it sounds like this latest version I just installed still exhibits the problem.

porter, i hate to be a pain in the rear, but this issue of the nextmap thingy happened again...this time, popular vote let us switch out of a aztec marathon, but it still could be a useful program i think...still not sure what the best way to accomplish it is though...

This would have to be a step closer to the HL DLL, and is probably in the realm of possibility for an AMX plugin, but probably not AdminMod. Unfortunately I don't have time to code it. This is gonna have to stay one of those slightly annoying things that admins will have to deal with on your own. Of course, the simple solution is to not change to a map that is coming up next in the rotation to begin with. Why switch to the map you'll be playing in 10 minutes anyway?

The problem with this kind of plugin is the mapcycle. There is no easy way to tell HLDS to skip such and such a map and move onto the next one in the cycle. HLDS sees a list of maps, and runs through that list very orderly. What might be possible is a plugin that alerts people that the map will be played again and puts up a vote for a couple of maps so that people can pick. The problem with this is that the map that was going to be played twice is still 'queued', so even though it wouldn't be played back to back, it would still be the next map in the cycle, and I don't think there is a way around this.

Slight is very right, but the default AMX "nextmap" plugin already has some code that forces the next map over whatever hlds thinks it's going to do. It's a brute force solution, but it would probably work. I still don't have time to code it though, and I am not feeling like I want to mess with another blatt_map type plugin. I think our rotations are great, and having the same map played twice in a row because an admin happened to change to the same map that was coming up next anyway is a pretty darned small (and hopefully rare) enough event that I don't think it really needs that much attention.

Look, no matter WHAT the rotations are, SOMEBODY is not going to like them. This is another awp-esque discussion that has been gone over way too many times.

We can NEVER please ALL the people ALL the time. The best we can do is please MOST of the people MOST of the time. Each day's rotation is made up 5 maps that are "most popular" like dust and aztec. The other five are a selection from all the remaining standard maps. That means out of all the maps we EVER run, half the time it'll be something MOST people like, and the other half the time it'll be something that at least a COUPLE people like. That sounds like a pretty good compromise to me. Pretty soon we'll have two custom maps added to each day's rotation as well, and I'm sure people will just love to bitch about that too.

Sure it's just a game, but only playing 4 maps over and over reduces it to a VERY BORING AND POINTLESS game! So anybody else that has a huge problem with our rotations can go start their own server and play dust 24/7.
