I was just wondering...does anyone watch any scifi? Mainly, I'm interested in the stuff on SciFi Friday. That is Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and the new Battlestar Galactica. Open discussion in this topic then

Stargate-SG1 is a staple in my house. My dad, sister, HER boyfriend, HER ex-boyfriend, and I all love it! I am in suspense at how they will stop the replicators from getting to that ancient weapon. It's such a well written plot.

Pretty much all the best SF&F shows of recent years have been cancelled in the last couple of years. I don't watch Stargate since I don't like to watch a show unless I've seen it right through from the start. Last year I actually bought 2 dvd sets off ebay but the guy ripped me off The dvds are fairly cheap now, so I'll probably make a start at some point.
The only current show I'd say is unmissable is The Dead Zone, but it's new season is not currently airing in the UK (maybe not even the US yet). Alias is pretty good, although only faintly SF. I've been watching Smallville since it started, despite the fact it's pretty cornball, and recently Point Pleasant too, although it's almost completely pointless.
In terms of shows not currently airing, my shelves are decked out with tons of Buffy, Angel and X-Files vids/dvds plus smaller presences from Firefly, Babylon 5 (I wanted to know what the fuss was about, but it doesn't do much for me), Invisible Man and Millennium.

Buffy Seasons 1-3. Angel Seasons 1-3 and a bit of 5.
All of my fav TV shows are American because other than the odd gem, like Red Dwarf, UK TV is crap.
I'm also a fan of Firefly - Joss Whedon is a hero. Alias was good but it's totally ridiculous these days - as is 24. Dark Angel was fun while it lasted.
Other than Sci-Fi, I really like Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, The O.C and just about anything big on wit and pretty people.

That's a big good karma for you Grounded! X-Files is about the only Sci-Fi show that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have seen episodes of the others mentioned, but that was only because Porter wanted to watch them .

I also forgot it's short-lived but still fun spin-off show The Lone Gunmen. That was nifty.

Mystery Science Theater of course. Awesome comedy there.
Character: "You know what my kids would say." Crow: "You're not my real father!" Servo: "Poor deluded Joe, Doesn't even have any kids.."
I'm also about the biggest fan of Sci-Fi Fridays there is. SG-1 surpassed my long standing favorite Star Trek: TNG a while time ago as the best SF on TV. But I can't believe how many people around here are not impressed by BattleStar Galactica. They must not have watched enough sci-fi to see how different it is from most. Everything about it smacks of freshness. It has a kind of suspense that Babylon 5, FarScape or any of the grittier shows could never pull off, the camera work is unique and well done, the special effects are beautiful and clean, and they've got darn good actors *and* writers, which also tends to be pretty unique. You can't really mention one without the other, because while you're thanking the writers for such an incredible plot, you can't help but thank the actors for presenting it to you so darn well. BSG has already been picked up for a second season to air this summer.
For those UK'ers out there who apparently aren't getting BSG at all yet, SciFi,com has posted the complete first episode online for free, commercial free and uncut. It's in Real format, which blows, but it's still a big gesture considering the DVD box set isn't even out. Check it out here.
On the non-scifi front, I'm a fan of Monk (on USA), and Home Movies (which is currently off the air but used to be a Part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim). Home Movies shines mostly for the voice acting. It's usually so good you could just listen to it and get most of the comedy out of it.

Actually the new BSG started airing on Sky One before it started airing in the US. I didn't start watching it from the beginning though (because I haven't seen the one-off 2 parter that preceded the series) so I'll have to wait for the reruns.

Yeah, I missed the opening mini-series too, but I've been watching the series since the first episode, and I while I get the feeling I'm missing a lot, I have no problem keeping up with what's going on now. I think the miniseries is most useful as background now that the show has a life of it's own.

You gotta get your hands on the mini-series it sets up a lot for your enjoyment of the series. I unfortunately have missed most of the series because I'm rarely home on Friday nights and I always forget to record it.

Yeah well, if you know how to do that, I wouldn't mind hearing about it. (Keep in mind Kazaa and BitTorrent and the like don't work so well here on campus. If somebody can find it and download it, then host it somewhere I can use straight FTP or HTTP to retrieve it, I'd give you The Key to the Server in gratitude.

I actually have two avi files of the two miniseries episodes. They're the kind that they use for cable TV, but kinda castrated, so there is a tiny loss in quality. I'm currently searching for avi's of DVD quality. They're good though.
The rest of Stargate SG-1 Season 8 is ALL story and action. Great stuff. Reckoning Part 2 will be all freedom of Jaffa, Replicators and what-not. Threads will be ascension and Ancients, and Moebius 1 and 2 will be crazy cool time travel and alternate universes. Atlantis ain't gonna be half bad either.

Now that I know there are DVDs, I think I'll wait for those. If iCabbit were up I'd ask you to throw them there regardless, but it's not, so you can't, so I won't.

Oh man, Reckoning Part II was spectacular. What a great episode. Michael Shanks was definitely the main star of that one. Not only does he die again, but before that he and RepliCarter definitely had a great exchange. Him controlling the Replicators was also quite cool.

Totally compelling. It was nice to see the Replicators in a compromised position, even if it was only for a couple seconds. Makes you wonder what happened to Daniel though. Did he ascend again? Who knows. No matter what they do I'll enjoy watching. Good to see the Jaffa finally turn the tide in the rebellion too. Anubis is gonna still be a problem though.
