Didn't see that coming...

My street (about 10 houses) was evacuated last night by the council because of dangerous levels of gas travelling through the soil from a nearby landfill and coming up through the floor. My folks were put up in a local hotel while I got in the car and came to Aberdeen to stay with JB. My poor computer won't know what to do without me

Yeah, that's an unpleasant little event. What exactly do they plan on doing about stopping landfill gases from seeping up into houses? Sounds like nasty problem to solve.

I'd have taken it, but we weren't given very long to get sorted.
As for how they solve it, they can put extraction systems into the underfloor areas. Long term they'll bore vents between the street and landfill to release the stuff before it gets anywhere near us.
