Sheesh! Is there ANY communication within your clan at all X Factor? Who's making these decisions anyway? The voices in your head??
Not that I don't like Alkali-- I think he'd be a great addition to any clan (I wouldn't mind having him in mine, that's for sure) but MAN do your announcements come out of nowhere!

|
| Actually, unless deuce provides me with some sort of background, I won't be switching to the "black" version like we had originally thought of doing. Second, I can't honestly say I'm that CRAZY about the website layout/design, since it has to be solely in HTML, and I don't know the basics of that language. Thirdly, I'd fully support someone either righting code for the website, or something like that (kinda like deuce tried). Deuce is the only one who can complain about the site, other then terraji and miscreant (since i forgot the put up buttons to their pages). And fourth, when you get a job, and go to school full time, maybe we'll talk.

eh. why would i complain about the site? i dont even visit the darn thing.
if you want my honest opinion, suck up to porter and ask for a page to use as a host instead of geocities. something like www.csreloaded.com/guardian.html....i cant imagine that it would take much size, plus you'd get rid of the annoying geocities ad's.
as for a background..stick with black. looks more professional and loads quicker. i'll make spiffy pictures for you though if you want. i can also try making a new page for you if you want..i got pretty good making webpages using word (quiet porter. dont even start on me and your mac greatness)

my problem with a plain black is that I start seeing "edges" of pictures...the page isn't supposed to be much...just a place for random people trying to figure out more about guardian to go...The problem is right now I need to move alot of the MIA/Retired/LOA players out of the normal line up. Guys like senti, gimp, etc. Alkali, can you e-mail me the answers to the questions that everyone else did?? Mail me here...clanguardian2003@yahoo.com That includes, if you have one, a picture to rep yourself.
I'll also remind X-Factor, that Phoenix Knight is in the Guardian line up. 'Nuff said.
As for asking porter for webspace...I'd be concerned about people getting confused on clan / server affiliations. Though Guardian is meant to be supporting of CS-Reloaded, and the Wumpa clan for "sponsoring" the server, but the server doesn't belong to us...it belongs to the community, and it would be unfair for us to take up webspace unless every other clan had access to it also... I somehow don't think Porter is willing to offer webspace on CS-Reloaded to every clan here that has a Clan Forum. The forum here is already alot more then most servers offer.

See I have Word. I use Word...on my Mac no less, but not for building web pages. That's like opening a can of soup with a sledgehammer. It's just about the worst tool you could use. You said yourself the page would load quicker if you left the background black. Do you know how much bigger webpage created in Word are compared to their "standards-based" counterparts? I've seen pages that used twice as much HTML to accomplish EXACTLY the same output.
Word is for writing papers or letters. Please learn to write HTML by hand, or at least use a tool designed to write better (but still not perfect) code for you like GoLive. This program is worth finding on Kazaa, but is not worth the $300 Adobe charges for it. Stay away from Dreamweaver-- the HTML it generates is no better than Word.

As for the webspace, although I personally wouldn't mind it, Tenshi does have a valid "fairness" point. Not sure how to resolve that one.
The benefit is that you'd get access to PHP, MySQL, Perl, and ASP if you wanted to play with dynamic content. Keep in mind that icabbit and slightofcode are both running web servers as well, but I don't have a good way to get "clanguardian" into the url for you unless you want to be "http://clanguardian.slightofcode.com"

I can solve this one easy...
I have a website already running (with nothing on it yet) [www.experts-online.com], and could give over a whole subdomain to it, ie. [guardian.experts-online.com].
Free of charge. Uptime is nigh on 98/99%, occational planned upgrades are done that normally last an hour max every 3 weeks, or month or so. Every single type of file extention is supported, and you can play with anything like that including ftp if you want.

Personally, I dont think that a clan page needs a bunch of the fancy stuff that Porter is offering. If it were up to me, I'd just take the code from the existing page, give it a minor facelift, and then throw it on a new domain.
A subdomain of csr would be cool but the fairness issue is a biggie. I think that it would just boil down to whether the web guy on each clan was trusted by Porter enough to be given those privlages.

Actually Alk, that is an AWESOME offer. If I knew HTML to accomplish what I want on it, I'd use it. How well do you know HTML, and I do have WS_FTP95 LE on my computer already. At the least I should be able to get a small page and some pics up there. If you know HTML enough to code an position text, tables, and those buttons are precoded objects, that would be a HUGE start.
Most of the problem with the code that is already on the clan website is geocities' PageBuilder adds alot of positional code that is WAY more specific then it needs to be...such as coding different paragraphs and positioning them differently, when all I really want to do is enlarge something or word wrap something around a picture.
I'll start a different thread on this idea for us getting things together, secure, and what not. I might even start an HTML code thread in the troubleshooting area, and probably will. I've never experimented with perl, php, MySQL, etc...Though it would be cool to pull stats from icabbit to our website such that each player has livestats just like on csreloaded. Of course I'd need porter's help and consent for that...and that's way down the road considering I don't have the skills to even get the Guardian Homepage up the way it looks right now if I wanted to, and MySQL is a bit more complex then html, or so I understand.
Alk, I've started a new thread on this HERE
also, a HTML, PHP, Perl thread started in the Help and Trouble shooting section here...
