Noob's Need to know Part 2

Cover the bomb carrier and VIP. Always provide protection to the bomb carrier or VIP. These people are essential to your survival, so keeping them alive pays off. If you are the bomb carrier or VIP, then don't go rushing off on your own. Check for ambushes before disarming bombs. When you spot a planted bomb, don't rush right in and try to disarm it. Clever Terrorists will lie in ambush and try to nail anyone made vulnerable by bomb defusing. Always look for traps first. Use cover and dark to your advantage. Hide in dark corners and behind obstacles to make yourself harder to hit and see. This is especially important when sniping. Listen up! Use sound to your advantage by listening to movement sounds. This will often allow you to pinpoint the location of opponents and avoid running into them headfirst. You should also learn to crouch or hold down the walk key (shift by default) to mute your own movement. Finally, use headphones or loud speakers to make things easier to hear. Shoot through walls. Some weapons can shoot through some walls. Learn which weapons and which walls so that you can use this fact to your advantage. If you see or hear someone duck behind a fragile barrier, you can put them down with total impunity. Use hostages for cover. Opponents who kill hostages earn a cash penalty, so using hostages for cover is a good, if cruel, tactic. Of course, it makes it hard to shoot back yourself... Reload before running out. If you can help it, don't wait until you're totally out of ammo to reload. And if you can, seek cover while reloading, since it makes you quite vulnerable. Buy a better pistol. You may often have to rely on your sidearm, so upgrade it if you can afford to. It makes a lot of difference. Learn radio commands. Use the radio commands quickly to communicate efficiently. And don't hesitate to respond to them if you hear them. When someone says "I need cover", they probably mean it! Switch to lighter weapons to run. Readying lighter weapons like pistols and the knife allows you to run much more quickly, so it's a good strategy when you need to get into position quickly --like at the start of a level. Snap out of sniping mode When you're zoomed in on someone, quickly double tap the "next weapon" key to snap out of zoom mode, switch to another weapon, then switch back to the sniper rifle. This is great if you need to move or dodge quickly. Watch the Crouching Be careful when you duck down for that accuracy shot because those who don•t duck usually keep there crosshair at waist level. Most people also aim for the biggest part on there opponents body, being the shoulders to the waist usually. Or if you are battling it out with another player standing up, don•t duck your sure to get shot in the head. Duck and Jump and Hop When jumping to make yourself a harder target, crouch as well. This makes you an even smaller target Gimme a Boost! You can get to high places by "boosting". One player should crouch and the other one should jump on top of him. If you need to get even higher, the player above can jump and the player below should let go of his crouch key. Gamma Correction Turn your gamma up, which allows you to usually see players hiding in darker areas. (i.e., dust, in the hall right next to the 2 stack of boxes...) Flashbangs are Better ALWAYS buy flashbangs.. In my experience/opinion they are far more effective than an H.E. or smoke.. Throw them into a room where bad guys will most likely be, or save them on you and use them if/when you get pinned down, timing is critical so that u don•t flash yourself! Rush in RIGHT after/when it goes off and shoot the blind bastards! Circle Strafe Use Circle Strafing when in a close combat situation... Circle strafing (for those who don•t know is when you strafe around your opponent always facing them). The Old Bait 'n Snipe If you're going to snipe or hide, always do it in the least expected place. Hide in vents, or over doorways and have a free shot at anyone that passes underneath. You could also "bait" someone by leaving a hostage out in the open and hiding nearby in the shadows. They'll rush for the hostage, right into your line of fire. Don't Give it Away Use team chat! It can be useful to orient your team or to decide what to do next round. Far too many people blurt out their tactics over public chat, leaving the enemy with a good opportunity to counter it. Give 'em a Hand! Don't block your teammates' line of fire; don't block their line of movement while retreating or strafing. And if a teammate is being shot at, don't just let him die. Toss a grenade if possible and join the fight, if they kill him then they're coming after you next, better to stop them sooner than later. Bind New Commands Using the console, I would recommend binding keys to quickly say messages that aren't included in the list of radio commands. For example, you can key-bind q to say "STEP BACK, GRENADE COMING UP!" or "Walk, don't run". But make sure it's configured to "say team", not just "say" Go For the Crotch! When firing on full automatic, aim for the legs or the groin or something. This is because the recoil will kick the bullets higher and higher, so your 2nd or 3rd or so shot will land on the neck or the head. If you're close and sure of your accuracy, then by all means, aim straight for the head. But for long-range engagements with a weapon that has no scope, aiming lower will help. Hostage Jump On some cs maps, if you're playing with a buddy that you can talk to (like at a LAN party), you can pull off a "hostage jump" that'll get you into hard-to-reach places. Have the other guy crouch while he's next to a hostage. Then, jump onto the guy, and then jump onto the hostage. Now, have the other guy lead you wherever you want to go. For example, using this trick, you can jump onto the light fixtures in the ceiling of assault. Here you're pretty much invisible and able to fire with impunity onto any CT that comes in. Use smoke Grenade AND Flashbang Try to use a smoke/flashbang combo. A lot of players know to duck back if they see a grenade coming to avoid the flashbang. Throw the smoke grenade first, once the smoke screen has deployed, toss the flashbang. Your enemies will never know what hit them. Do Not type Never Type unless you are dead. It is a horrible habit to do so! If possible, use Radio Commands instead because if you type it makes you very vulnerable because first, you are not playing and second, it gives your opponent 2 seconds to kill you. Try to Snipe "fast" The key to a good snipe isn't in a slow aim, but to shoot quickly before the target has a chance to react. Many times, a constantly moving target will make you wait until your bead is sure. By the time you're able to take a good aim, they're usually in firing range of you and you've lost your advantage. Also remember that the AWP is usually one shot / one kill, and that the Scout is usually two shots / one kill. Hit them fast and you can't go wrong.

These are old. You can tell because it talks about Ts hiding hostages, which you can't do in 1.6 anymore.

It's the thought that counts right. I want noob's to get the same kind of info you get when you join any team. A coach gives you the rules and a bunch of basic game play. It is then up to you to practice and have a chance at excelling. To little info was given to me at first, the laugh of the noob kill still haunts my dreams! I want all noobs to at least have the basics for a better team experience!

True, but it makes sense to at least give them good advice then. I'm totally nitpicking here, but Ts can't move hostages anymore and the last thing you want to tell a newbie is that they can (unless you're going for a good chuckle).

I like the tip that says head shots do more damage so aim for the head. I am going to give that a try sometime.

I found some things that are missing, such as :
HE Nades
When you see one coming, run forward, not backwards, this will enable the nade to go behind you and do less damage.
Flashes
When your in a dark area, a flash can actually help you. If you turn your head so that its 90 Degrees away from your view, your screen gamma will go way up. Use it to search those dark areas. Also turn your head away to avoid the whiteout effect.
Sound effects:
Run across the bridge in aztec, you will hear lightning at the halfway mark. Sound events are scattered in a few maps, so use them to your advantage.
You can also hear a difference when nades ricochet off surfaces to which ones which. Join an empty server and throw the different types around and listen for yourself. You should hear a higher pitched noise with the flash and smoke. A deeper sound for the HE. Helpful to know when to rush and when to close your eyes.
Duck and cover :
Find some place that will hide half your body, you lessen your hit box by 50% for full damage. They might be able to shoot through your cover, but it will be lessened. Remember, all guns can go through 1 layer, but only rifles can penetrate more. M4 can go up to 4 layers I think and AWP 6. An example would be double doors are usually 1 layer. Walls are usually 2 but could be 1. A corner would be the wall doubled. This all depends on how the map has been created.
Have fun :
If you are not having fun, your k:d is likely to go down from frusteration and mistakes. Have fun and joke around. During your dead time, look around and see what people are doing. Sometimes its very entertaining.

Here's one for you about Armor.
It isn't necessary to buy new armor every round you can wait until it is at least 50 points down b4 you rebuy and supposedly you can go as low as 30 because theoretically even at 30 you'll run out of health before you run out of armor.

Also keep in mind that hosties cannot climb ladders anymore as well. Back in the day you could not only hide hosties but they where able to climb ladders and such which you cannot do anymore.

Nubbinator who i think is mm, only rifels and the deagle can go through the wall. Pistols can't even go through 1 layer.
Another thing, i know you found this on some old website and copied it. And it is obviously for nubs because people who move the hosties are stupid just based on the fact that ct's have them on radar at the beginging.

Speaking about sound trips. There are a lot and more than just the bridge on in aztec.
And another thing when i was being "accused" of hacking one of the things people say is that i never get flashed. Thats because whenever i see a flash i look away from it, so it's at my back so i get barely flashed, if at all.
Which reminds me, i think some day i may write one of my own tactis thread. I got some nifty tricks that help me.

well..you could always move the hosties to a more strategic place where there are more opportunities to camp them and get a bigger advantage over the ct's.

Deuce haven't you learned. The ct's always win....ergo the t's always lose.
Along with the fact that we are talking about nubs who don't have a strategic mind yet. Along with the fact that most cs maps, as stupid as they are(exempt cs_reloaded) they usually don't but the' t's in ct spawn but pretty deep in t territory, they are usually as strategicly placed as possible

I believe this may be relevant.
If you're in a movie theater and someone steps on your puma, let it slide. There is no reason for getting 5-7 because someone smudged your puma.

If you're older and reflex-challenged, or relatively new to FPS, I'd suggest pointing your weapon down a little...too many newer players think you should only hit the head, and end up outlining their targets and not hitting them at all. Better to wound a guy to 50% and let the guy behind you finish them off.
Also learn to time your grenades. Throwing a flash and then entering .5 seconds later is too late...you need to go in just after the flash pops, while the enemy is turned way.
People also tend to back up when you throw HE grenades, so if you follow them into a room you're gonna take damage, but you'll often get the opposition out of position.

Well.. your right on one point. I am MM.
But from what I know your wrong on the other point. All guns were able to go through one layer a few versions ago. Now I am saying my information is old and this could have changed, but what I'll do is make a map to test this theory this weekend and post the results. I'm not going to test all the guns, but if anyone has a favorite they want to find out about, let me know and I'll be sure to include it in my testing.

Alright, so I tested this... and... All guns go through one layer still. That is 1 layer. This is a very very very small percentage of walls or anything for that matter. To test this, go to ice world, and shoot through any corner, as close to the corner as you can, and you will see the bullet hole against the further wall.
I tested this with all the guns I could including the glock. They all worked.

i was curious about the answer to this, so i created a map with all the designs i needed to confirm the correct answer
in a large room, i had 10 different walls, each one having a different width (1 unit, 2 units, 4, 8, 16, ect..)
my first test was to shoot through the wall with pistols. for all the guns except for the usp, no holes appeared after the 8 unit wall. no holes appeared for the usp with the 8 unit wall.
my second test was to add a target behind the walls. so i had 10 hostages lined up behind each wall, and did the same test over. not only did the pistol holes not appear, the hostages were not injured at all. i proceded the same test with shotguns..same results..even with a 1 unit wall, no damage was done to the hostage. this did not include the deagle, as it indeed injured the hostie.
all rifles, and the para injured the hostage on the other side of the wall, while SMGs did not
CONCLUSION: while all guns are capable of creating holes through walls, depending on the width of the wall, only the deagle, rifles, and para could be shot through the wall to injure.

Woa there Yankee, I grew up in Freeport, Maine so dont get no Yankee attitude with me there son. I did not bet anything I was looking for quality info! I do believe when you put your mouth up and bet you should always pay up! Exactly why i do not bet because I feel compelled to be a man and put my wallet where my mouth put it! As a matter of fact I bet you will have a hard time getting paid on this one, how about a quart of Ben & Jerry's! Not ummm but yumm!
