Don't think > registers as part of a clan tag. Try a differen't symbol like | or ( ) or something crazy.

Clan tag markers HAVE to be inclusive. There has to be some kind of matching symbols on each side of the tag to catch it. Most pairs work: |test| [george] <another> =sameChar= ...
If there aren't two symbols to mark the beginning and end, everyone who ever puts a single ">" in their name is going to end up in a clan. The player "myGame>yourGame" would end up in the "myGame" clan, even though that wasn't at all what the name is trying to signify.
