Maybe Porter will have an answer for this, what's wrong with the server?? for the past week it's been having huge lag spikes, and an overall poor connection, i get loss and choke now regardless of how i adjust with my rates. Has RG just gone down the tubes finally?

Today, was by far the worst it's ever been.
Couldn't more than a second with out a spike. I tried stopping and restarting the server, but that didn't do anything.

Yeah we've got to get to the bottom of this one. It's gotta be RG, I suggest firm kicks up the rear in their direction. I don't have a great connection but I've never had problems with loss as bad as this...

I haven't noticed any problems at all until today. It was uber jerky which really got in the way of my usual domination

It's funny but I run into trouble somewhere on Verio's network. Too bad this server isn't on the west coast  Or better yet put it somewhere on MCI's backbone

I played on several servers last night and had lag issues/crashing trouble on all of them, and as long as I'm playing on East Coast servers I never lag. I think it was more than just a problem at RG.

Yes, please, everyone please post traceroutes from different geographic locations and times of day! I need as much evidence as I can get when I talk to RG, which I will try to do this afternoon.

I can't get it to stop so I can take a screen! I think whatever the major problem last night was has gone though - I had no trouble uploading maps today, whereas yesterday it wouldn't work at all.

It should have occurred to me earlier to put two and two together. The HLDS mailing lists are currently full of complaints about new myg0t cheats and server crashers. It's entirely possible that our issues were caused by one of these guys. It's also possible RG was having a bad network day, or any other number of things, but I wanted to throw it out there so people could watch for it. One of the big complaints seems to be about hackers causing skulls to spawn all over the map as they run, which generates enormous server-side lag. Obviously I can't test this myself, but again, it's something to watch for.

I have played on a few different Source servers where the server would suddenly lag REALLY badly for everyone...
on each occasion there was one player who could "toggle" the server lag at will.......
I have NO idea what they were doing, or indeed whether it was only a Source exploit.....I've never seen it on CS before
This was quite long time ago, so it may have been "fixed" by now if it was just a Source exploit of some sort - I haven't played Source in ages so I've no idea if its something that still goes on....
As far as I know the only fix when it happened was to kick/ban guilty party and then restart server.......but SG already said that restarting didnt help yesterday and as I said I've only seen it in Source servers......
Just thought I'd add to the possibilities...

The website was pretty far gone for me too.
I didn't think to run a traceroute when it said I was pinging 515 to the server. Now the server is fine.
