Finally finished the final version of deuceball. this newest and final version of deuceball features a speedball map that constantly is changing. It will take 90 rounds until you play the same layout again!

deuceball is now on the server, and is playable. you can download deuceball here.

As original as joust was, with so much open space it was kind of self-defeating. I'm sure you can come up with something as equally original but with the added bonus of actually being playable

well i played it maybe 2 times, and i thought it seemed the one way i ran the previous round did not make sense the next round.. but didn't think much of it since i didnt know you could generate maps randomly (although I will assume that these are not exactly random since deuce said after 90 rounds you get the same maze again)

it is a cool idea though. much better than the previous deuceball map

Yeah it's not random, but each layout is different and like Deuce said there are ninety of them.

I know it's just plain ol biggums.  Put could we get that in rotation for tomorow.  I've seen some pics of it and deuce has explained some crazy stuff to me.  It would be awsome to play it, and what a great way to get back into the game, then with a map made by da deuce.

i just did the math again, and i forgot to consider that 2 of the switch series (there is 4 altogether) actually repeat itself every 6 rounds..so actually, there is only 30 rounds before it repeats itself.

which still isnt that bad i must say

Well technically it has since the entity mechanics involved were learnt from a tutorial on another website. I don't know if anyone has actually released a map like this before though.

  Who cars we have our DUECE BALL now!  I have played it three times now, I wish I could get the on top view, but I am always boosting somebody else!  It is so funny when you start to run one way and it ends up being a dead end!
  Skip, Surgeon, we have found one guy running ahead with a gun supported by a guy behind with a grenade running together works well for a heated surprise!

I played it yesterday.  It was pretty cool how it was different round.  They only annoying thing was when you went the wrong way.  And there's no way to win the round.  But it's very fun and a good change.

I have one thought on Deuceball.
Maybe it should be like pool day and iceworld, in that you get weapons instead of having to buy them. It's tough to get out of the hole if you lose the first couple rounds and can't buy a rifle.

epoly are polygons from game models - guns, players, armour etc. If there are tons of weapons lying on the ground (as in iceworld) it can slow the game right down.

stu are you getting lazy in your new broadband era and not considering people with lower spec computers as much now??? tisk tisk

(i wish i could play test soon)

Think im 99% sure its my motherboard that is broken - cos iv proved my power supply and cpu are good!!  So i'll prob RMA it soon and hopefully get a replacement in a week or so.

Agreed other than that this is a terrific map. The one thing i find with this map is that as soon as one team starts winning it just keeps getting uglier and uglier so i think that having rifles on the ground would help that.

Speaking of Duece Ball, I was playing the other night and their was some un-regulars playing.  They were like it's different every round, I replied if you camp and stand in one place for too long the walls will actually move in the same round!  These guys were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, I was in tears! LMHAO

I just can't seem to control the crazy/erratic style of game play that it seems to induce in me everytime I start playing.

I had some fps probs with it: dipped below 10 at some points. Lots of visible func_breakables and armour_entities = much fps pain

Well the fact remains that unless Deuce changes it, I (or anyone else using a comp like this) won't be able to play reasonably on it due to slowdown. I'm not trying to discourage him from finishing it or adding new stuff I just think it needs to be toned down so that I'm not wading through five squillion epoly every round

wpoly are polygons contributed by the architecture of a map - walls, floors etc.

epoly are polygons contributed by player models, weapons lying on the ground, and any other models.

Putting weapons out on the ground like iceworld rockets epoly.

If it isn't in the cycle it can't be played at all (at present with this plugin). Unless he added it to the ini and removed it straight after a test?
