In the end, the only thing that matters is how many people you have knife at the end of the day.

I think I have a total of about 5 knife kills, not very impressive! Jesus the other night I had a chance to stab Just Boy he somehow missed me! Man if people could have seen me in person I totally dropped and rolled! I could not get my knife out to save my life, why? Was so dam excited, ended up reverting to my deagle, sad!~

I killed JB once!!!
It was on train with the USP  it felt good he had Porter pinned down and Porter was crying like a girl over the mic for some backup so I thought ok if I have to I'll be the hero.
As theres only like 2 or 3 of us left alive I start sprinting across the map in fear of being left 1 on 1 with "the haxor" himself. A constant flow of "Need Backup" and "Enemy Spotted" rain in on the messages as I desperately try to make some ground from the safety of my spawn camping corner.
As I get to one of the bomb site I dive through the door and onto the walkway and there in the far far away distance is a small round object just above a railing. The cries over the mic from Porter are getting more and more desperate and so in a blind panic I take aim as best I can at this unknown object in the distance - was it JB was it Porter I dunno  but moments later the answer was reached JB was dead and we had won!!!
And what about Porter you ask?! Did he survive? Did the mighty PD get there in time to defeat the evil JB and also save Porters bacon?? To be honest I don't know - you'll have to ask Porter for I was too delighted at my moment of glory.

I went down to 18th! Thanks to Porters and JustBoys blood kept me up in the running! Look at my percentage compared to the rest of the top 25 and death v.s. kills, I am way out of my leauge!

The stats dont seem all that representative at all, they fluxuate pretty randomly.
The only sure fire way I have found to raise your stats is to always play for objectives and dont kill hostages. Also it seems when you play in large games with lots of pub players, mine always seems to drop. I speculate that this is possibly because HLstats scores reletive to rank, so all the pubs are getting more off of me that I am getting off of them for a kill. Or else, maybe i am just imaginining it.

I always play for the objectives and you're right on the killing of random guys.
They have a lower ranking (even if they are quite good) and you get fewer points for killing low ranking players.
Correct me if I'm wrong here Porter
I pay more attention to my KPD, which due to my many months of sucking is taking forever to climb up towards respectability.

I found my KPD went up much faster once I stopped caring so much about it. Its surprising how many times starting 0-5 can end up 10-7 if you dont get all anxious about it.
Although, I still think I have a looooong way to go to make up for my first month or two on the server when the stats weren't recording.

You and Terraji are both correct. The formula for calculating the skill points from a kill is in the HLstats FAQ page if I'm not mistaken. A high ranked player will get fewer points for killing a low ranked player, but will also LOSE more points when killed BY a low ranked player. That makes the top 5 players very tempting targets. It's hard to stay on top because even in the big games when you're doing well and go 30-8, you've lost more points from those 8 deaths than you got from the 30 kills. Smaller games usually allow really good players to hit extreme KPD ratios for the map-- 30-2 for example (which is a 15.0 KPD), and DOES provide a point boost.
This is exactly what happened to me the other night.
