This One's For SG vs. Aim Miss Repeat
Time: 11:00am EST, Saturday 31st July
Map: cs_office

amr squad: amr.grounded, amr.alkali, amr.masti

TOFSG squad: [TOFSG] Porter, [TOFSG] Yuna, [TOFSG] yu^rei (is the little hat in the right place?)

TOFSG had just woken up. amr were getting ready for their afternoon naps. Unfortunately for both, there was a match to play...

The knife round began with Grounded issuing the command for his team to get on top of the APC outside CT spawn. 2 minutes later he realised this was a stupid idea and got down, although it took him some time to convince the rest of his team to do the same. A melee ensued (Grounded died first, of course) with a 5hp Alkali emerging as the victor. amr elected to switch to T and attempt to defend some hossies. For the first rounds, they failed miserably, being annihilated in sub 30 second rounds no matter which strategic option an increasingly desperate amr team captain threw out. Some vicious camping at the rescue point salvaged a few rounds, amr going into the break 7-5 down. As CT things started almost equally badly. Their rushes meeting with stiff resistance, amr fell back on the tried and tested tactic of hanging around the office room, hoping to bore their opponents into submission. Gradually they sneaked back a few rounds to go into the lead. At 6-3 up and with a 1on1 situation to at least tie, masti locked up and was easily finished off by a P90-wielding Porter. amr desperately called a time out to wait for their absent team mate, which TOFSG graciously agreed to. Once masti and returned, the game was restarted only for everyone to realise that the money had been reset to 800! Queue time out number 2 while the two teams tried to decide how to proceed. Eventually it was agreed to restart with both teams on 3000. Amidst muttered complaints that they couldnt buy colts, amr plodded up to their favourite office room once more and eeked out the equalising round to ensure at least a tie. At this point, team captain Grounded got a little carried away that his team would actually have a point on the board but there was still a round remaining and the unfamiliar prospect of actually winning. What followed next remains a blur - a few minutes later amr emerged having somehow clinched the final round. amr."first dead"grounded played little part, of course, but that didn't stop him blacking out with excitement afterwards.

A jolly good caper all round, including some fine heroical hostage rescuing as well as cringeworthy abject cowardice.

Final score: TOFSG 11 - 13 amr

Well played and unlucky TOFSG.  I was rooting for you.  I think we can count cs_office out as a map for any future tourneys though.  GGz amr.

Well for one thing it's almost impossible for a solo player to achieve an objective compared to de_, mainly because of the map size and positioning of hossies.

I think cs_office should be held above all other cs_ maps as a perfect example of a layout that DOES allow a player the best possible chance to complete his objectives. You have no ide how many times it's been me versus 5 Ts, and I pulled off the win not by hunting each one down and winning in a firefight, but by sneaking past all of them and snagging the hostage rescues. I am very glad it was included in the tourney, and I think you'll see some of the most balanced scores come out of it.

cs_maps are generally campfest. Though Skip and I played cs_arabstreets (former CSR goodness), cs_facility (just like the N64's goldeneye), and cs_iraq (Were in fact some WMD's) tonight. Despite the T's camping like it was going out of style, they were incredibly fun. Office just doesn't cut it, its too bland and boring on top of being of the camping variety.

In conclusion cs_maps are garbage unless they look cool or offer something unique. Custom maps are just more fun. I still want my de_batcave and I want it to work.

It's not a problem for most of you but in such close quarters, performance and ping become a big issue. I can't count how many times I was killed practically before I even saw the attacker yesterday. And no it's not just because I'm crap...

However I do think office has a good layout, just not for such a small game.

Yeah I think Office is easily the best official cs_ map of the lot!

I am tending to like Italy better at the moment.

It may be a bit more imbalanced, but as Porter said about office, objectives are a worthwhile goal in that map.

Objectives are a worthwhile goal on every map, regardless of the conditions. Be it planting or going for the hostages, there is always a chance of eeking out a win, even if your the last one left.

It was a quasi-sarcastic comment.
