Question: |
How do you like the new (Blatt) map voting system on the server? Should we keep it, go back to the standard mapcycle scheme, or think of something else?

New Map Voting System!

The standard mapcycle is basically switching to the next map in a list specified by the server admins here. There is not much room for negotiation unless an Admin is in-game to start a map vote.
The Blatt map voting system allows players to nominate maps while they play as choices for the next map to load. At the end of the current map, players are allowed to vote for the choices that were nominated. The map with most votes is the one that is loaded next. Easy huh? This process is totally automated and doesn't require any admins to be in-game to work.
And of course there are other options out there as well. (For example, check out the Map Rating System. Neat! ...and this post about using it here on CSR before you get your hopes up.) So if you have a better suggestion than these, please pipe up and let us know!

i like the new way, but there were 10 people on server and only 3 picked iceworld, and it change to iceworld, now really that isn't a majority, so 3 people were happy, and then the other 7 were like man i want aztec or dust2 or something? so if it was like a mim of 5 have to pick the same, or it just goes on to another map in rotation

That's a good idea, and I agree with you. It can probably be coded into the plugin, but somebody's got to actually do that, and I know I at least don't have time for that right now. MM?

I gotta look at some other options before thinking about re-coding this beast. I am trying to limit the amount of time it can stay on iceworld for now. I think I heard something about restricting maps. Thats the next thing I'm looking into.

I call it the "Deuce Map Resolution." It has won the heart of one admin already.
This could end the fy problem as we know it! Only two things you have to figure out:
A) how to actually make the system work
and
B) decide if iceworld would be in the cycle, or only votable

Personally I think we should go with the blatt's makers recommendation (I E-Mailed them). Entire response :
admin_rcon changelevel fy_iceworld
They sure don't talk much, but I like their ideas. Although this does mean only a select few can change it to iceworld. I will await a few thoughts on this before I implement it though.

the only thing I dont agree with is that they have played maps out of fun. For example I use to love rats_final, but christ after playing it for 70 MINUTES it wears on your nerves, and I quit, and same with Iceworld and Playground (I still dont mind poolday). My suggestion make sure like maybe every 5 maps there has to be a custom map chosen, cause there is ALL custom maps chosen, not only for the 40 mins or less, but for 70 mins and it gets on my nerves lol

There is a way to edit the map itself, or even set up a custom config for it so that whenever that map specifically runs, it sets a lower timelimit for the server, for that map only (eg: fy_iceworld.cfg file or fy_iceworld.res file)....
I like the blatt plugin, I think I recommended in some topic back in april was it? Didnt know the name of it then, but its off the basic democratic map vote plugin.
The reason it changed when only 3 voted iceworld is because 3 ppl were the most to pick any one map.
And I think it should stay just as it is, its perfect.
One more plugin I would reccomend though (off topic), ANY plugin that has the vote_ff, vote_pistols, vote_shottie option (disable the vote_awp option if you dont want awps). Just a suggestion (and sorry for wrong forum, but I had the idea after checkin out adminmods site for the blatt plugin w()()t for sma's)....

We had one installed, but it never works quite right. When I can get around to it, I'll update it to work with 1.6. Let me tell ya, it's pretty far down the list at this point though.

Yeah, they do
(Keep in mind Ryo skewed the votes for the poll in that link by 8 counts for the first option while testing a new website module.)

Did you happen to heed my comment? Or pay attention to when the two votes took place relative to each other?

Well lets see then 13 people voted on getting rid of the blatt voting system total. While 27 people voted to in the keep the blatt. 23 of them voting yes... Which one do you think best represents the csr community?

Umm I noticed that. My arguement has nothing to do with which one came when. It has to do with which one best represents the csr community.
Thx

Nittany, you're being dumb, he commented on this before...he and ryo were working on a few things that "changed" the way the vote looked, but when the date was up, the vote was in favor of getting rid of blatt. They were testin some permission scripts on this vote. Calm down, the community spoke along time ago, deal with it.

I should further add that though Porter isn't thinking this far ahead yet, he WAS toying with a few other hand written programs to make a dynamic map voting system, but not Blatt. I like several of the ideas he has, though I think it is much further down the road. Which maps are on the server, and which ones are getting played is something we (implying the CSR staff) are still trying to look at, but I don't feel Blatt is the answer. The daily map rotation thingy I thought was fun, but as someone pointed out, the end of day bug wasn't perfect (though I think Porter forced that to work).
Either way, there are much larger issues at hand so... KEEP YOUR SHORTS ON!

Yeah, the end-of-the-day bug has been converted into a 4am-so-noone-will-ever-be-distrubed-by-it bug. I see that as a successful solution, and have absolutely no other complaints with the daily rotations. I think they're better than Blatt or any of the other voting systems, at least for now and the foreseeable future (meaning: until I have time to come up with something better).

Dude, I don't want to sound mean, but yeah, you are. Look, this is pretty easy to understand:
This poll (New Map Voting Plugin) went up on June 29th, and more or less closed around July 9th. Another poll (Map Voting or Daily Rotations) was put up after Blatt went haywire on July 30th, and closed on August 6th. That's the one that has 8 votes too many for Blatt because of Ryo's testing. See we have this thing called chronological order, and when it comes to polls that overlap in their topics, the most recent one is the one you go by.
So yes, you're right that more people (total) voted on the Blatt poll than the Daily Rotations poll, but that's not my fault, and it's not an argument. It's like saying that because Clinton won more votes in the 1996 elections than Bush did in the 2000 elections, Clinton should still be President.
Look, nobody's stopping you from going out and rallying for members of CSR to vote for the option you want to see win. If you feel that strongly about an issue, I'm sure you'll do that...next time. This one is done and over with. Move on.

Also note, I'm trying to make a difference between calling you dumb, and this plea dumb. I know the difference, I find you smart and intelligent, but this time, you're out of line. Maybe another solution could be for you to research / look for other map voting plugins that work better, or try writing your own. Of course, you'd have to be very critical of Blatt to do so, and would have to realize the reason Blatt was voted down to begin with.

Wow, good to see a civil conversation can break down to name calling and personal attacks, i am dissapointed to see such a lack of maturity from some of our most upstanding admins and members of the community.
Does this mean I can call anyone dumb if they disagree with me? or does it mean i can snap at someone who has a different opinion? please?

Somehow I feel like I'm standing on a Kindergarten playground right now. Seriously, what is the problem? The change was made a while ago, we all know that some people don't like it, but how will we ever make everyone happy? You guys need to just give it up already. Play if you want to play, don't if you think the way things are run suck. I don't care, but stop pissing and moaning when the topic isn't even up for discussion right now!
