Question: |
Should we try to repair the map voting plugin and continue to use that to determine the map rotation, or should we switch to a new plugin that allows a new mapcycle for each day of the week?
Fix and use the voting plugin. |

Map Voting or Daily Rotations?

Just to clarify: The map voting plugin is currently disabled due to some as-of-yet undiscovered configuration flaws. We are currently running a 10 map static (meaning it never changes) rotation.
For those of you who aren't familiar with it, the blatt_map voting plugin prompts players to pick the next map to play from a list of 4 to 8 player-nominated maps. Our major issue with this at the moment is limiting access to the "fun" maps on the server such as scoutzknivez as fy_iceworld. The plugin provides no reliable way to do this.
The proposed daily rotation plugin is exactly that: it allows us to define a different mapcycle for each day of the week. What I imagine would happen is that all the standard maps would be spread out thru-ought the week, taking up 90% of the total space in the cycles. The remaining 10% (one or two maps for each day's mapcycle) would consist of custom and/or fun maps. In addition to this variation, this plugin provides an excellent possibility for integration with a web based map rating system that would allow each of you to rate every map on the server. The software would then generate new mapcycle(s) based on popular demand.
My recommendation is for the daily rotation.

i had the like ability to vote for a new map, especially when there were a few people in the game, making it possible to change the map to something where people would join.
but then again, giving me admin would also solve that problem
i never really thought the voting plugin had a problem with fun maps..last time i checked, only 1 "fun" map was in the top 10 maps played..and that was scoutzknivez at #10.
EDIT: data for the last 14 days actually says that there are no "fun" maps in the top 10..scoutzknivez takes #11, iceworld2k takes #12, mice_final takes #13, and fy_joust_v2 takes #15. italy has taken the #1 spot

Italy is the first map in the rotation-- with as many times as I've restarted the server these past couple weeks trying to get the voting plugin working, it doesn't surprise this is number 1.

It won't happen (probably). The "popular" maps will be disbursed thru-ought the cycles for every day, with a smaller percentage of each cycle being made up of the less common maps like chateau, 747, backalley, etc. Basically, some maps will be in the rotation for every day-- like dust, aztec and office probably.
Look at it this way: we currently have a 10 map rotation, which is pretty small in my opinion. Even if we wanted to continue having JUST 10 maps for each day's rotation and NOT have any overlap, you're talking about 70 maps! CS comes with what, two dozen? In order to keep the percentage of "custom" and "fun" maps low, we'll HAVE to include some maps in more than one day's rotation. It makes sense than these maps should be the ones most people like.
Also, you have to keep in mind that practically every map out there is liked by someone. Only by including a good fair portion of them (at some point) can we hope to please the most amount of people at least a little.

Daily rotations it is then! Combined with the new map packs I'm adding, this should prove to be a very good solution indeed. Give me a day or two (or seven) to get it all in place!

There is no one in the server because of the daily rotation plug in. I think that we should go back to the other plug in.

Ok wow I•m getting so much shit for being in <B|s> (my main clan is [m.o.b] by the way) let it go there a good clan and good people.
I•m not trying to give you a hard time I•m just saying that every time I play and we go to a new custom map half the people in the server leave.

That's because there aren't a lot of people here who will take the time to download the maps or take the time to learn them. If a map comes up that someone doesn't know how to play, they most likely leave. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that they can't "pwn" if it's a map they aren't familiar with.
Just give the custom maps a shot, some of them aren't that great, but a lot of them are worth playing.

Let me clear this up. This poll is locked, but has been skewed by 8 votes because Ryo has been testing a new module for CSR's home page. The poll was in fact in favor of the daily rotations when it closed. Ryo's extra 8 votes from his testing don't count.
Thanks for your input Zeus!
