StatsMe Adjustments, Part 2
« on: August 14, 2003, 02:04:33 AM »

There has been a lot of complaining about stats "whores" who are playing for their own personal gain and nothing else, which is contrary to the goals of CSR-- namely cooperation and teamwork.
The theory behind removing the in-game "/rank" commands is that it will keep stats-centric players from playing solely for their ranking, since they won't be able to know what it is while they are playing.
Damage reports will still be active, and depending on the results of the poll, the more general (and slower to use) "/stats" command may still remain as well.
Personally, I think the third option above provides the best compromise. I want all you voters to keep in mind that the goal here is to keep the server (and the players who play here) loyal to the goals of CSR. Try to think of what would best serve those goals, and not just would best serve yourself.

i dont know if its possible..but can you get the stats program thats in game to show exactly on the site? since that is the most popular ranking system people go by, i think people would get upset if they can never check it..but if they check it out on the site only..

It's possible, but we'd have to write the system from scratch-- nobody's done that kind of interface for a HLStats database before.
Good idea though. If I had a month or two to get into it full time it'd be worth it. UnitedAdmins handles both StatsMe and HLStats now-- it might be worth bringing the idea up to them in an email seeing as HLStats is currently back in active development. (Hint hint. )

Look people! Either vote, or don't complain about anything around here! Only five votes? One of those is mine! If you don't vote, the Staff gets to do whatever THEY feel is best, and you don't want THAT, do you?
C'MON! Vote already!
You have till Wednesday, August 20th to get your voice heard.

I can tell this is something Porter doesn't feel at all strongly about . I think it's just as annoying. What's the big deal about waiting until the rounds over or your done playing? Does checking while in game make you play better??? Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I like to have access to the /stats command being an admin, I have access to how many headshots people have and other such kill information on any given player. I agree though, that a lot of people just play to be stat whores, and don't really care about their team or not. Frankly, I can't believe how many ct's I've seen who don't even try to go for the bomb. Or who walk right past a good chance to defuse rather than try to kill the last remaining T. Not to mention the guys that think by logging on and off they somehow magically reset their scores making them look better.
I've voted for the third option, and for good reason...

Poll is closed. StatsMe will display damage only. All "/rank" type commands will be removed.
