Setting up an IRC room

Hi all, [Guardian] are planning to set up our own IRC room but we're pretty inexperienced with the whole system. I use quakenet for my UK purposes but the whole AUTH'ing process seems to be different for gamesnet, the network which we plan to utilise.
Any help, pointers and potential idlers would be appreciated.
