.DLL is a type of file, like .TXT and .EXE to my knowledge there is no ".dll" file

Kaoz is right, .DLL is an extention meaning dynamic linking library. There isn't just one single file called .DLL though. I'd be careful about your usage of the word DOS too. Keep in mind any win32 system 98, 2000, or XP is really on EMULATING DOS. And is really running NT, which basically translates to worthless. If you're having problems with viruses and/or spyware, now is a good time for Porter to mention that us Mac people don't have to worry about that kind of thing, nor do unix/linux users really. And further...one of the best ways to keep your computer safe is to wipe it clean every so often. Format that beast of a harddrive. But then...I've never understood the point behind having 70gigs of mp3's like Porter.
Good Luck though, and may the force be with you. Tenshi

It's only 16 gigs! ...and to hear most people talk, game music remixes don't count as music.

well 98 is not NT based. windows 96, 98, and ME run virtually the same COMMAND.COM command line as windows 3.11 (DOS 6.22) but windows 2k and XP use CMD which is a revised dos interpreter... you can however still run command to run the old dos interpreter (you can tell the difference because it doesn't support long file names)
anyway mints.. just format and reinstall.. it sounds like there is no hope for your PC

mints - I presume you have some form of windows (98, 2000, xp etc)
if you want to search for ANY .dll's on your computer you can use the Search facility in windows and set it to your hard disk (c:\) or what ever it is. Then search for *.dll and it will search your whole hard disk and display them to you afterwards.
Why you'd want to do this i have no idea - but its probably better that way!

Dude, if your using Windows, click on start -> run then type in command and press enter. If you are looking for all DLL's you can type in "dir /s *.dll" and this will list all dll's on your system. You will find about a billion of them. If you are looking for a specific one, just type in dir /s name.dll and this will give you the exact location. No fuss, no muss.
That DOS command once again is "dir /s *.dll".
To settle something else : Win3.11 and Win9.x runs off command.com (virtually any will work) WinNT/2k/XP/2k3 runs off the NT command system. There is no real DOS support, it is emulated.
Command.com is pretty much DOS right there. (Other then actual boot files)

i have a lot of club mixes that are from 80-150megs in size because they are whole albums in single tracks.. but all my other stuff is full albums and mixtures of songs that i have collected over the years. so its not 24000 songs... maybe if all my club stuff was broken down by track though...
oh and i guess its not quite 60..... yet

I have 5 gigs, I like every single song on there. No crap that I'm never going to listen too, but quality tunes. Though about 1/5 is my Van Halen and The Police collection.

Before I'd go do something important that could cause stress, like a game or exam, I'd listen to Fatboy Slim - Right here Right now (mainly for sports though).
The new song is Van Halen - Right Now. As you can see, they are somewhat similair and very different. I listened to them while studying for exams and then it would play in my head while taking the exam. Also helps because it puts a rhytm in your head and you can cruise right through them.

I read about a guy revising for his finals at University and he wanted some relaxing music to aid his studying. He bought the soundtrack to animated classic "The Lion King". He got to the exam and had a total mental block but was able to write out all the words to "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" verbatim.

That's why you listen to classic video game music (and/or remixes). No lyrics, but the catchy repetitive tunes can help you associate a topic with the song, so all you have to do is hum a bit of the theme from Zelda 3 to remember the number of covalent electrons in a methane molecule or something.

I remember the first time I played Tetris, I was a senior in high school and was visiting a friend at college. We went to a party where this brutal heavy metal was blaring and people were drinking 151 and cider. I remember sitting down at a pc and trying to play but I could barely see the screen. I got really sick later that night and had the worst hangover of my life. Now everytime I see or hear about tetris I detect the faint scent of cider.....

My point was more along the lines of whether a methane molecule even HAS any covalent electrons-- or even IF it can have them.

I wish. Enialator alone is probably responsible for an amount of junk equal in size to EVERYTHING else ever uploaded.
So thank you Eni, for making me have to wait for my backups to forever store and protect the (mostly) worthless images you feel the need to attach to just about every post.

Enialator we have limited space on the server for the forums therefore posting pictures is costing us space. If they are relevant to a discussion, then posting pictures is ok. It's just posting a pic for the sake of posting the pic that is frowned upon.
Also part of the services that Porter provides is backing this information up so that in the event something happens to the server we can rebuild the forums. (Granted most of what's in here wouldn't be missed) So in addition to taking up space the pics also make the backups take longer.
Finally people are paying for the use of this forum (and the game server) it may be free to us but there are individual(s) that shell out cash for us to be able to converse here. Porter and the other admins. have been appointed by those people to run things. I may not always agree with what they have to say, but I try to keep that fact in mind when dealing with them.

I had already apologized and knew and understand the amount of work to take care of a server. Remember my wife is a project manager for Xerox and she is responsible for all of there's. I know the intricacies and work involved, after a month I do not see why you clear info or irrelevance? I see you are pushing for some admin duties yourself, good luck!

I just deleted one of his posts that had nothing to do with the topic and was nothing but a personal attack. I'll say it one more time, and then I'll start taking most hostile actions. This is a HELP & TROUBLESHOOTING FORUM. I'm fine with this thread getting off topic, but do remain within the guidelines of the T.O.S. or you'll see me start to get more and more angry. This particular board is supposed to be for helpful things. If you want to slam someone, go to the compliants section.

Well for starters, I'd drop the comments about him eating obscene things for breakfast or any other meal for that matter. Then I'd start contributing to the CSR community in a humane and intelligent way, and if you REALLY want bonus points, buy a mac, use it, and then try and say something intelligent about the systems up and downfalls (assuming it is running OS X Jaguar or higher).

I know everyone is dying to have this cleared up:
The term 'covalent electron' doesn't really make sense. A covalent bond is a bond between two atoms formed by the sharing of two electrons. Methane is a tetrahedral molecule, formula CH4. It has one carbon atom surrounded by 4 hydrogen atoms. Each hydrogen atom is covalently bonded to the carbon, hence there are 4 covalent bonds in a methane molecule.
