Delayed Sound.

We've just done a full format and reinstall on this computer and although everything seems to be installed correctly my sound in CS is about a half-second off the mark. For example, when I shoot i don't hear the shot when I pull the trigger but when the bullet hits the wall. This might not seem like a big deal to some but due to my really poor PC specs and connection I play off sound a lot so any help would be good.
I've installed the latest DirectX which I thought was going to fix the problem but didn't.
Is there some sort of tweak or something out there?
Any help much appreciated.

Try OpenGL instead of DirectX.
Try new/different sound drivers.
There are some cvars in the engine that control the delay between sounds and video. I don't know them offhand, so you'd have to look them up.
Also, what kind of sound card is it? I'm assuming it's the same one that worked fine before you formatted, correct?

Er...aren't you confusing DirectX with Direct3D?

We've tried 2 new sets of drivers and neither have sorted it. I found a list of cvars and tried out a couple but nothing useful - I thought maybe s_distance or s_refdelay might have an effect but nothing.
The card itself is an onboard Soundblaster I think on the Matsonic VIA 8137c Chipset if that helps anyone out there.

Don't think it's Soundblaster...

Fixed. I used _snd_mixahead and boosted it to 1 from 0.1 after reading it can sometimes fix sound probs. Everything seems ok now.
