Ok so the RAM is ordered and should arrive any day, but now I need a new monitor too. Thoughts? Suggestions? As you can imagine I'm not about to blow tons of cash on this

I've never actually BOUGHT a monitor, so I couldn't tell you want to go with. If it helps, there were some monitor roundups posted on slashdot a while ago that may be helpful in educating you in LCD "lore."
Budget LCD RoundUp
High End Gaming LCD RoundUp
I also know that the next monitor I do buy will be an LCD. They're getting fast and sharp (and cheap!) enough that you can't tell them from tubes any more. The age of CRTs has pretty much ended.
