Dawn of War

Anyone else got this? It arrived yesterday and I eagerly set it up, generously downgrading all the graphical options to the lowest level to make sure it worked. Skirmish seemed alright, if a little slow when battle commenced, but upon starting the campaign it went into uber slowdown mode and when the first cutscene was finally finished the map terrain disappeared, the whole world turning a shade of off-white with the units wandering about on top. The Relic support forums work about 1 time in 10 for me, and they won't let me search either, so I thought I'd take a shot here.
Specs:
AMD Athlon 2.6 1G RAM Geforce FX 5200 Windows ME
I've updated the Nvidia drivers to the latest version - no difference. As far as I can tell, my specs exceed the recommended system specified for the game, although I suspect I could do with a fancier graphics card. Still, the game should at least work, even if it's on the most basic visual settings.

This isn't much help, but I'd blame your problems on ME.
I'd ask how the game is but I doubt you've had much of a chance to play it.

For the love of everything that is good, get rid of ME. It's the bastard child of the Windows line and good for absolutely squat. It has all of the problems of 98 and 95 and none of the benefits of 2k and XP. Upgrade with extreme prejudice, even if it has nothing to do with your current problem.

Did you try upgrading your graphics drivers?
Secondly, try tweaking the graphics settings in the Advanced section of your Display control panel. Usually you can change the performance/quality settings for EVERY 3d application there.
Last, I know I've actually gotten some weird artifacts with my games when I turn the quality DOWN too far. You might want to try turning some of the settings back up a bit in the game. It won't lep it run smoother, but it might take care of the glitches.
The only other thing to do is get some reasonably recent hardware. Radeons are dirt cheap these days, even the 9600s and up. Get one with as much RAM on it as you can. My 9600 Pro 256MB does amazing things with everything I throw at it.

I've got the latest drivers for both the graphics card and the motherboard as far as I can tell.
I kind of assumed I might have to buy more hardware, but I thought I'd at least be able to get it working to a playable standard with what I have. Maybe I was wrong

Stu I wanted to help - I really did, but those forums are like torture
3 minutes to load every page - asked to register just to "view all threads started by Grounded"
tried to load your link - nothing
Maybe its just me but I couldnt do anything useful on those forums
If you cut and paste any relevant stuff I'll have a look here if you want.....
Agree with Porter - my 9600XT handles everything I ask of it at the moment and is fully cheap these days!!

Open case.
Pull out old graphics card.
Insert new one.
Close case.
Obviously, there is something to be said for installing drivers but where that falls in the list I can't remember.
Seriously, it shouldn't be any trouble at all. The instructions are extremely easily to follow, so easy you could have JB do it for you.

Easy as pie. [url]http://compreviews.about.com/od/tutorials/ss/DIYAGP.htm[\url]
Never intstall the drivers that come on the cd for a new video card. They are guarenteed to be buggy and several months old. Grab the latest ones off the net.
I am not having much luck with those forums either.

Have you tried the everest utiliy they mentioned? http://www.lavalys.com/
Short of knowing which model of motherboard you have, I can't point out to you the correct driverset to pick up from the manufacturer's (asus'?) website. Hopefully this utility will perform as expected.
