menuselect 10
« on: October 05, 2003, 10:11:39 PM »

So, I have a hard time buying ammo...aparently the server likes forcing the command "menuselect 10" on me when I try to go through the button combos of b6, b7 or o2. (Ammo, ammo, armour). This only happens on CSR...I use old-school style buy menus, if that helps anything. (I find it lags me less, I can buy faster). What's going on??
PS: I have a screenie but it's not allowing me to upload
EDIT: Ok, aparently the upload did work...but it didn't work when I previewed it. Meh.

My initial guess is the weapon restrictions plugin. I haven't looked through the code entirely yet, so I could be wrong. Is it preventing you from doing anything? Or is it just showing the menuselect 10's in the console with no adverse effects?

Adverse effects?
3/4 of the time those menuselect 10s cancel my buy menu when I try to buy ammo and armour. So it does sorta effect me, (I'm used to being the first person to take off at the start of a round, with all my stuff bought), but now It takes me > 15 seconds to make sure everythings bought.
I'll try and test it a bit and see what conditions it happens the most under, because I noticed sometimes it's not as bad as others.

...It drops 15-20 fps when I hit escape or console.
And yes, I'm playing on a gameboy.

I want a gameboy that can play CS, that'd be AWESOME!
Where'd you get it
I guess the reason I've avoided this post, is, I don't get what you're saying...
you're saying that you push 8 and instead, it buys 0 (well, 10)?

Exactly. I hit b, the buy menu comes up, I buy my weapons no prob. I try to buy ammo/armour/nades, and a good 3 our of 4 times instead of actually equipping me with what I ask for, I get nothing but a purdy menuselect 10 in my console.
Just frustrating when you kill a guy and try to reload only to realize you have no extra clips. Or when the armour doesn't equip and you almost get a guy but he kills you because he had armour and you didn't.
I guess I could try the new-school menu's, maybee then I wouldn't get this problem, but I really do prefer the old-school menus.
PS: I got my gameboy for christmas in grade 6, it was the Pokemon bundle. It came with Yellow Version. That's right, I used to be an uber leet Pokemon pwnzor. My secret is out

I'm most perplexed by this. I haven't heard anyone else complain. Even *I* use the old school menus still, and I can't recall having any problems with them.

Not trying to be mean, but let's make sure we've checked the obvious here...
in the options, keyboard, there are "menu select" binds...I assume those are all set normal??

Yuh-huh. I use compelety default controls...I only added a few binds to my mouse for quick weapon switching when lastinv was disabled...I'll go into the config and reset everything though, we'll see if that helps at all.

yeah, ya never know, but the last thing you want is it to be something dumb like that while we are trying all these advance fixes...and realize i don't mean you're dumb, just...we'd feel dumb if that was the only problem after we'd spent weeks of work to fix it.

Yeh man I hear ya. Well, I defaulted my controls...still get the bug.
BUT, I switch to new-school menus and I can't seem to re-create the bug.
Oh well, it's not important I guess, I can live with it.

hrmm....well, that's odd that the new menus work, but the old ones don't...i don't see why it should be different aside from the "graphical interface"...but umm..yeah.

Well, I've confirmed the problem-- at least with the old style menus. I'm still guessing this is a result of the LATEST version of the weapons restriction plugin. I guess I'll have to dive into the source code. I'll try contacting the author first.

Lol, I can't be the only one who experiences this bug, can I?
Good luck with your diving and contacting and such, hopefully you find something

There are new version of the plugin available. Lots of them actually, so I'll try one of those as soon as I can. I don't want to make things worse and lose the ability to restrict weapons altogether though, so if I can't get a newer version working correctly very quickly I'll have to revert to the current one.

Cool stuff. Couldn't this be done with admin mod in an version < 1.6? Admin doesn't work anymore or something?

They totally re-tooled the weapon select menus (at least the way the server handles them) for 1.6 to help make them more bullet-proof-- which happened to also break the way AdminMod used to do restrictions. They had to write a new plugin from scratch-- and we're using one of the (earlier) betas of that new plugin currently.
