BAStards in the bible, I say it should stay.

And Grail edited you Lik. Not anyone else. This really is the wrong forum for it. But like I said in my post there (boy did I point out some words that need moderation), bastard is in the bible, it should not be considered bad nor foul nor abusive.

I am only going to ask this of you guys one more time. Watch the language, and now I must say, act maturly. I needed to add that because it seems that some of you guys are not.

PS. Stacking is NOT ok Lik. Dont go stack to "eat their words" I am getting very frustrated here people

Don't even get me started about the hipocracy of using the Bible as a reference source. One piece of literature out of the millions that have been written since the beginning of writing, and it's so frequently used as the end-all definitive guide for life... wow. (Please note I am speaking from a purely anthropological standpoint, and carry no extra meaning in my words about Christians or any other particular group.)

In any case, firm rules of which words can and cannot be said here have never been established for one simple reason: we expect our members to be mature enough to know the difference. Sometimes this is admittedly too much to ask of some of our younger crowd, but for the most part, if you wouldn't say it to your mother or to a 5-year-old child, we would rather not hear it either. Of course, we don't have many mothers and 5 year olds frequenting the forums though, so for the most part, the occasional expletive will be accepted as long as it is appropriate in the given context and not over-used.

I feel safe using the following example because the second part is not directed at anyone in particular. Please do not assume this example gives you free license to curse...

For example; saying, "crap! That scrimmage was today?? I totally forgot!" would usually be accepted, but saying, "you play like crap, Joe_Nobody!" would not be. I hope everyone can see the distinction. It is simply a matter of good taste. In the case of "bastard" I can think of no use that does not apply to someone directly, and therefore doesn't have much place here in my opinion.

Make sense?

haha, if you let a 5 year old play cs or frequent a cs forum then that's your problem, cs wasn't a game meant for little kids people, i think you guys know that, dont you?

i was wondering if "bastard" is a foul language and it is not, people use it on network tv and you're telling me i cant use it in here, wow

btw, thanks for using giant words to make your argument sound more complicated than it actually is, maybe we can type without resorting to writing an essay in here? but i give you an A for effort

I see the plea for maturity and good taste has once again fallen on deaf ears.

Yep, you've got it right. You see, network TV censors what they do because they follow the rules set for them. Here we play by CSR rules. You are in our house, and your choices are to repsect our guidelines or leave. Is that clear and simple enough? Also, did you notice I tried not to use big words for you this time so as not to "complicate" my statement.

The context in which one uses a word makes the world of difference LiK.  Yes the word is in the bible but the context in which you are using it deems it a curse word/ foul language.  No offence but foul language isn't nessary to carry out a conversation.  I respect your opinion but I believe because CSR has deemed that no foul language is to be used you should respect them.

Sorry just my opinion.

:: chuckles ::

Hey Grail, welcome to the joy that is being an admin.

We don't have any specific policy written in stone yet because we're waiting for a stone to write it in, but here's a useful yardstick:

We are all allegedly adults, and as adults every once in a while you're going to slip and bang your thumb with a hammer, usually saying something off-color.  Noone is going to get on your case for the occassional slip, we're not nazis.

We're most concerned with two types of behavior; gross obscenity (usually the 15 year old who just found daddy's penthouse and has to use every word he found in it every 30 seconds.  This is unacceptable and will incur being pointed to the rules (Hey MM remember that "showrules" command?), eventually to being kicked.  If the people come back and harass the admin for being kicked, it is in their right to take harsher measures.

The other and worse use of off-color words, or even not using obscenity but eveyrday word usage in a specific manner is trash talk.  Now, you and I and hopefully everyone else is intelligent enough to know the difference between friendly banter and deliberate slights.  If I call you a "hacker! " in a game, and by context everyone knows it's a joke, that's one thing.  If you tell someone "get the **** out of the way you ****ing ***damn noob, you SUCK!"  That is harassment and not allowed.  This really annoys me because if someone is so bad at playing the game, instead of bitching them out...teach them how to play!  Everyone of us was a noob at one point, and think about how great their playing experience would be to finally find people willing to help them out, rather than just rag on them.

An extention of this will earn immediate thunder from heaven.  Anyone who says anything denigrating about someone else due to Race, Gender, Religion, Sexual Orientation, or equally sensitive topics will be dealt with in the harshest mannor possible.  There are some lines decent human beings should not cross, and it reflects poorly on one's character to cross said lines.  Now again, calling a round your entire team died "well, that was gay" will annoy me, it's not going to get you in trouble...whereas calling someone a ****sucker will most certainly earn a slap.

Hopefully this clears the issue up until there's a written guideline available.  Oh, and personally, "bastard" isn't that bad a word in itself...but I wonder how you can use it in a phrase online without making it seem hostile when you do it...a lot of smilies I guess.

Please understand we're not trying to make this place a facist realm where all behavior is controlled...we just want all the people to come here to have a good, clean, "FRIENDLY", and enjoyable game.  What behavior you engage in when only your three-four best buddies and you are alone is different than when you're out in public...and this being a public server, try to act the same way.

hey, stoning women is in the bible, so should we stone women who talk outta  turn?

and this game WAS meant for kids, as were most video games, the fact that it's enjoyable for older people too is irrelevant, there ARE kids that frequent the forum, and there will be more, if you can't handle it, just don't post inflammatory remarks and no one will post any towards you.

The bible is irrevlevant.  Just don't act like a jerk and things will be fine.  The new admins are chill and they are fair with everyone.  Treat them and others with respect you will have no problems with them.

The thing I see the most on the server is someone is following a teamate, the teamate looks like they are rushing out a hallway, only to try to duck back in.  The two collide in mid-doorway and the one in the front gets nailed.  This is called "miscommunication", not "being noobish".  Personally I am sick of seeing this kind of situation get out of hand with name calling and sometimes ends up with behavior that is unacceptable.  Please remember that people cannot read your mind, so they do things that you don't expect them too.

HAHAHA, you guys are so damn funny, do you really believe in what you are saying? you sound like 50 year old preachers in here, this is too good, thanks for the laugh cuz i'm not taking anything you guys are saying seriously in here, but i found a lot of people who laughed at this thread because you guys are so absurd

thanks, that was some funny sh...o wait, i can't swear huh? let's see...funny CRAP, how's that? lol, gawd

but only Ribs' statement made any logical sense considering the rest of the guys in here are such posers trying to act all innocent and righteous, and as you see, "bastard" is not a foul language and i hope you guys will know when a foul term was used as a joke, lol
