An Error Has Occurred!

I went to edit my profile, did the usual type in my password and save my settings, but then I get this:
An Error Has Occurred!
This forum does not allow accounts to use an email address from the domain, "hotmail.com"! |
|
So yeah.. can you make it so existing CSR members with Yahoo/Hotmail accounts can at least edit their profiles? TY in advance.

That is exactly the point: to slowly phase out these email domains altogether. You have an ISP (naturally): use that email address in your profile and you'll be able to change everything else too.

Stupid rule, stupid stupid rule. I have been planning on calling and getting an E-mail address from my ISP, but seriously, how are kids going to join the forums? It has been said that CSR is a place for people of all ages (swear filter, etc), yet let's make it so most kids can't join the forums. (I'm not sure how the deal is with most ISP's, but I'm lucky that I can get up to 5 addresses with mine.) Even if most ISP's are like that, kids would more then likely have Hotmail or another form of free E-mail. I don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me. I know this rule isn't in place to keep people from joining, (but to keep banned people from joining) but that's what's probably going to happen.

Sometimes sacrifices have to be made. If kids really can't convicne their parents to give them an email account, I can't believe said parents would let them play CS either.

its not even a matter of that porter, in my case for instance, my dad uses our adelphia email for himself alot... so, using it means i need to get my dads password... no matter how much trust is between 2 people (and between my dad and i, theres worlds), he still deserves privacy, i mean, he doesn't get to go on my email so why should i get to look at his...
This whole thing feels kinda fishy, like it was intended as a way to get rid of the -18 crowd almost, and not just Geo and DucK.

my family has 4 adelphia emails..
as far as i know it doesnt cost more..then again..i dont pay for it so i really wouldnt know
try calling adelphia and asking them. my experience with them is that they are very nice and will answer your questions.
also, i was always under the impression you can just ban IPs. is that not possible?

If you read the original post, there is a problem with banning IPs. The same IP Duck or Geo uses one day might be the IP your common ISP gives you YOU the next day. I know a lot of you are in the same geographic area, and I also know a lot of you have the same providers. IP banning is simply too unreliable to be considered a viable method for banning.
As for the Adelphia thing, it took me approximately 15 seconds from the form I'm using to type this response to get to the the page that explains you get multiple email accounts with your service: http://www.adelphia.com/high_speed_internet/service_plans.cfm I certainly understand the need for privacy, and I wouldn't share an email account with anyone either. Thankfully this isn't an issue for you. It probably isn't nearly the issue for anyone else either.
I get the distinct impression though, that people are just looking for excuses to get the hotmail and yahoo ban lifted.
For one thing, only ONE email has ever been mass-distributed to the entire forum memberlist (to inform people that this incarnation of CSR had opened), and it doesn't look like there will be many (if any) more. We don't use your email address for anything, we obviously don't sell them, and other than the forum database itself, we don't even keep track of them. At least from that point, please rest assured that your information is kept as private as possible.
Second, we have not FORCED you to change your email address if it is already with hotmail or yahoo. That would have been easy to do, and I bet you all would have disliked THAT a lot more. As it is, we tried to leave you with an option. That option is to not edit your profile. Sure there is a price, but we have to introduce some kind of incentive to slowly phase these domains out, and this is it.
That's really about it. You all are of course more than welcome to continue debating the issue, but it is extremely unlikely the policy itself will be changed or revoked. We have explained our reasons fully and clearly.
