#1 the problem is people dont play right. people are too concerned about their stats rather then team play. and because of that, people will stack teams in order to give them a better chance at gaining better stats. there was a poll on this last week, and the majority said to remove the rank. if there is anyone to blame for this, you can blame yourself for not participating, and if you did participate, blame it on the others who didnt.
#2 the maps on the new rotation (which i helped make) were all nominated by the csr community. by insulting the rotation, you are insulting the community. again, there was a vote on this about putting daily rotations. if you didnt vote you screwed yourself. then to add to that, there was a 1 WEEK nomination period where you could suggest maps for the new rotation. why didnt you take the oppurtunity to vote then? you lose out again.
i'm also getting the general feel that people are saying these new maps suck only because they haven't "pimped" the hell out of it. because they dont know it, and because they cant abuse all the defects of it, they arent good at it. anyone can be good at dust or aztec when you've played it thousands of times..but are they capable of being able to learn new maps?
want to help with this? here is what you can do to help..participate in polls next time.

Actually I agree on both issues with mints. The slap for typing rank is a slap in the face. It is not mentioned anywhere not to type it, and its in our motd that /rank and /top15 IS enabled. Taking the /rank out will not stop stat whores from being stat whores, they will do the same then go to the web pages. Hell, stat whores will play on a server with no stats and just go round by round. "Deuce Owns the Awards!" even sounds stat whorish... Besides, now everyones just asking others to spectate them and see what their rank is.
Secondly, the map rotation is not right as it is right now. If you look at fridays rotation, some of the least played maps are on there. This will not help having a full server on fridays. I did not vote on which maps were going into the rotation cuz I didn't want tons of custom maps going up. As it stands, 50% are either custom or unpopular for fridays.
The vote said that it would be 90% - 10%. 12 maps and 3 of them are custom is 25% custom - 75% normal. So we should either put up a new vote with the new numbers, or reduce one custom per day and put one more popular map in.
I'll be honest, I havn't seen one of those new maps yet, so I can't say how good or bad they are. There is too many of them for me to bother with. Heck, I'm even avoiding half the maps I hate on the server now, and just going on when I see a map I like. If any of you know me, you know I have never done this before (avoid maps).
In general I think the polls are not taken seriously. We should put major polls into the sidebar for people to easily see. This would increase the amount of votes.

Okay, let me see if I can handle these...
| The slapping for /rank is part of a custom AM plugin I wrote the other night to remind people NOT to use /rank. For one, the connect message does NOT say /rank is enabled. People have to know it's there to use it, and one top of that, anybody who has visited the forums in the past week should know it's been removed anyway. If it came down to it, we could even re-enable /rank and have the slap be people's payment for using it. Once people realize /rank doesn't work anymore, it won't be an issue anyway.
I also wrote the AM plugin to remind people of CSR's "supposed" values. Seems not many people care about those any more. The slapping (and even the message) can bee turned on and off by any admin with access of at least 64. This is listed in admin_help, just like everything else is.
There isn't much room to argue about why this command was removed now. As Deuce said, there was a poll up that anybody had a chance to voice their opinions about. The poll closed and because of a pretty closely matched outcome, I chose a compromise. The '/stats' and '/statsme' commands remain so people can still see how there were doing, but also puts them at a disadvantage because of the time it takes to use. If I had my way, it would ALL be gone.
I also want to note that we are only trying to dissuade stats 'whores' in-game. The web page based stats pages aren't going anywhere. If 'whores' wan to watch their stats using hlstats, that's fine, but the idea is to keep them from concentrating on that in-game instead of the game.
Besides, now everyones just asking others to spectate them and see what their rank is. |
| If they're willing to go to that great length to figure it out, let them. I still feel our goal has been accomplished to a satisfactory degree.
Secondly, the map rotation is not right as it is right now. If you look at fridays rotation, some of the least played maps are on there. |
| You will also notice that some of the most played maps are there too-- prodigy, dust2, aztec, cbble, and inferno. Wow, that's half of them! Read on...
| The ratio was for standard to custom maps. As it stands, there is already only 1 custom map per day, and 10 standard-- that's even a little less than 90-10. That decision is in a news topic itself: http://www.csreloaded.com/yabbse/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=703
Plus, the requirement was for at least 50 percent to be "popular" standard maps as defined by our previous mapcycle. That too has be maintained.
We recognized the impact the new mapcycles were going to have quite a while ago. I never knew we were shooting just to have a packed server 24/7 though. I'll go remove all maps from the mapcycle except for aztec and dust right now then! I always thought we valued community and good gameplay more than sheer numbers. Please forgive my sarcasm-- I am only trying to make a point. I just don't think we'll miss anybody NOT willing to play somebody else's favorite map just to be nice to them all that much.
| While I too may not care for some of the custom maps, or even some of the standard maps, nobody has any room to complain about this. Everybody had a chance to vote, only a couple did. Nobody's fault but your own. On top of that, avoiding maps you hate is perfectly legitimate. Asking an admin to rockthevote (or starting one yourself) when a map you dislike is coming up is legitimate too.
Those maps are there because everybody has a favorite map. This point is important because you wouldn't like it so much if somebody said your favorite map sucks. Every standard CS map is in the rotation once somewhere. Even maps that Deuce and I don't like are in there, but we included them because somebody else likes them. Deuce and could have picked out only the maps he and I like, but somebody would have complained about that too!
We are going to get complaints no matter what we do. There will always be somebody that doesn't like something.
Also, I am real sick of everybody's complain-about-it attitude around here. If there's something you don't like, stop just complaining, and DO something about it when you are given the opportunity!! That means vote dammit!
In general I think the polls are not taken seriously. We should put major polls into the sidebar for people to easily see. This would increase the amount of votes.
|
| I agree with you, and while that's not necessarily our problem whether people choose to pay attention or not, I think making them more accessible is a very good idea.

Hey Mints, this is NOT a "cal server." This is a community with people that play for the team play and for fun. I would've thought that this server NOT being a cal server would be obvious (according to others) due to the lack of FF and the AWP. But you know what? This server was founded by a group of individuals with similar ideals and CSR is the result. I do want to acknowledge, and appreciate, you input about the new rotations and the like, however, you know that the good portion of the regulars at this server don't want this server to go to a "cal server." There are PLENTY of cal servers out there, go to one of those if you want them so bad.
CSR's entire purpose is to stand out and NOT be like the rest of the servers out there. So in the words of Father Ribs: CSR-Phoenix - Rock on.

one thing to point out... there is no such thing as a "Cal" server, cal runs a league, you use your own servers to play matches on, even most pubs claiming to be "cal" servers do not use the proper CAL.cfg. Though i'd love to see it at CSR, but i'd also like AWP and FF, and that will never ever happen.

Alright, so perhaps there aren't servers that are identical to cal servers but there are most certainly servers that try to be, or are close to it. My point is that there are other servers out there that are closer to being cal servers than CSR. I have a feeling you knew what I meant.

I'm not going to waste my time getting into to it about anything anyone has said. People's opinions are just that, opinions, and everyone is entitled to one. There isn't a right or wrong opinion, so go ahead say what you want.
Everyone has made the maps what they are by either voting/nominating them for the new rotation or doing nothing. If you did nothing, then shame on you for not paying attention. If you did vote, then thanks for helping make up the new rotations. And all you people who didn't vote can thank the rest of the community for whatever maps you don't like and deal with it.
Like Porter said, "everyone has a favorite map". There is no way to make everyone here happy. Even in game we can't get a nominated map to pass a vote, because NO ONE CAN AGREE! Everytime a vote goes up it fails because no one can agree on the same map. It's rediculous.
The opinions of people at CSR are very strong and I don't think anyone will ever make everyone else happy. So somewhere, somehow, everyone is going to have to compromise in order for things to be pleasant.
My two cents, and I'm sure I've just made more negative karma for myself, but oh well... I'll just consider the source and get over it.

I think that everyone should at least try the new maps and play them a little bit. Why not give them a chance ?
I personally didn't vote for any specific map rotation but I myself just come here to play CS with all you peeps because I enjoy your game play. I'd rather not go to a server where the admins are either A) acting like children or B) dont give a hoot. I always thought that was what CSR was about. A group of people from all over playing CS that enjoy playing agains't each other. Not because the map is thier favorite or because they are uber stat whores. I say thank you for putting in some map rotations and taking out /rank. It keeps things different and changes CS so that I can see something different.
Yuna is right also everyone has a opinion and your never gonna please everyone.

My only problem with the whole "you didn't vote, so you have no say..." Lots of us did vote and voiced our opinions and even if that vote didn't go through I don't think it would have mattered in the slightest. Obviously, porter and duece as well as others wanted custom maps. I don't think there was going to be anything in the way of them going on. I mean if MM, an admin who has always been here disagrees with something and the response he gets is basically stfu we voted. It is funny how lots of stuff that gets voted on gets either is never considered or taken away. This however, won't be taken away because some admins want it and those admins make the site and those admins pay the bills. And i'm fine with you guys being like we do all the work so we are going to do what we want with our server. Just don't tell people they actually have a say as to what goes on at csr. That is a joke.

i'm looking at the post right now..and i'm seeing only 1 person who voted against custom maps..and that was you.
and you know what? we did cut down the number of custom maps included. we were going to have much more. so for your information..your opinion did matter. dont go saying it didnt.

I made this new half life mod last week. It is called haxor mod and what you do is you play cs but you get hax. And you level and with with each new level you get a new skill. The skills in haxor mod are like u get more bandwith and harddrive space to get more hax and get more hax faster. If you get caught by something like punkbuster a big biker comes in and teabugs you.. irl. I think you all should get it. Just go onto google.com and searh for hax and download what you get. Then follow the installation instructions. Haxor mod owns teh face!

No one wants to play on a public server with cal settings. If you want that kind of thing, go do your "scrims" or something. At least let us have fun and play CS however we want, god forbid its not the 'professional way'. But you're always welcome to join us once you realize there's no future in counter-strike.
