Maps and Admins
« on: September 15, 2003, 09:58:02 AM »

Ok first off I guess this has been discussed before.. but im gonna complain anyway..
the custom maps are killing CSR... don't get me wrong.. they are fun to play from time to time.. but lets face it.. custom maps just don't catch on so well in public game servers... thats why people dont mind playing dust, office, aztec, inferno and the others to name a few... I have downloaded a bunch of the map packs from here, not all of them yet out of my semi laziness.. but we will have a full game goin on... and then boom.. up comes cs_cracksmokingbungalo_2k as the next map and we are down to 3 guys playin, 6 guys takin on a 10+ minute download, and the rest just leave...
Wasnt there a mod that would come up with a vote list of maps near the end of a map so you could vote? Note the votemap or nominate stuff.. those never work... we should just have the white popup vote because everyone will use that... majority wins.. thats how it should be... the people currently playing should be the ones to vote on the next map.. thats why they are there...
also, admins seem to be in short demand.. have I overlooked a list on the site here with a list of admins (like i really looked hard )
I would be more than willing to be an admin, or with limited admin rights.. maybe put up a map vote or vote kick... I have been around a while.. and a pretty decent all around player, follow the rules and play fair. I am on the server for a decent amount of time at least once a day... and when we get an AFK or obnoxious player.. it would be nice to be able to do somethign about it

On my behalf, I apologize that I haven't been around but I'm starting my first real week of school this week and I've been attending to other matters since I arrived at school last week. Give me a bit to settle in and then you'll all most likely be seeing a lot more of me.

for those of you who dont pay attention to the rotations (i would include myself in the list if it wasnt for the fact that i helped make them ), new map rotations have been put into place to try to "balance" everyone's wishes. I dont remember the exact numbers when it comes to changes compared to the old rotations, but there has been more "popular" maps put in (or as what i also refer to them: "maps that fill the server"), custom maps per day were lowered from 3 to 1, and there is also 1 "classic" map in per day (which was brought up by quite alot of people in the forums): http://www.csreloaded.com/yabbse/index.php?board=6;action=display;threadid=736
this was done yesteday (september 14). 8 "popular" maps (server fillers), 2 "other standard maps" (aka nuke, siege, ect.), 1 "least liked" standard (aka havana, torn, chateau, ext), 1 classic, 1 custom = 13 maps a day
also, an idea that i had (which i dont know will be used or not) is to have polls up (that will last for at least a couple weeks to time for people to vote) asking what is your least favorite custom or classic map on the server, and then you can suggest a map to replace it, thus there will always be a constent flow of custom and classic maps changing that people actually want.
as for admins..anytime i join i always seem to see one on (there are quite alot of people that are admin that you might not know about..i was certainly suprised at the number once i found out)

thats great and all.. but then maybe these admins need to show it... or to acknowledge that they are admin... because a lot of time myself or someone will ask if there is an admin present, and we get no response.. which means either there isn't... or they just dont want to be bothered.. which defeats the purpose of being one.
As for the maps.. it is good that the rotation has been tweaked... but the problem still lies with the need to play maps that the people playing want to play (man that was a lot of plays )
I have no problem playing nuke or siege... but not when 4 people are on the server... so if we could vote on the next map.. we could pick aztec or dust.. something that
1. should get more people in the server 2. will have more playability when only having a small amount of players..
because when siege comes up with 4 people in it.. there is a good chance that the server will be reading 0/20 in no time

I have a lot to do at the moment so here:
1) The map rotations are brand new right now, so give them a chance before complaining any more, okay? We listened to your feedback, and what's running right now is already a result of that. Patience patience patience.
2) People wanted the custom maps, which is why they are in. Emptying the server is not an issue. The topic has been beaten to death around here, and all the arguments have already been said.
3) The Admin issue is already on the table. We know we have some deficiencies that need to be taken care of. ALL of our admins will be powerless as soon as CSR goes to 1.6 anyway. NONE of our admins have made sure I have their new SteamID so they can keep their powers when the switch happens. Honestly, that is a larger concern right now. I've already said I want to "trim the fat" as it were, and we'll get to it. We have bigger problems to deal with now-- at least until Steam settles down. Patience patience patience.

well I am just calling it how I see it...
people can say whatever they want to have or whats a good idea in the forums... but this is what HAPPENS when we are playing in the server.... map changes to custom, you can bet 1/2 player decline by the time the map starts.
Not disrespect to the people that make the custom maps.. I know how hard they are.. I messed around with it a little myself... but these maps are usually oversized ontop of the fact that we never get a full house playing in one of them...
I am just trying to give some feedback... it isn't my decision if you guys use it or not, I also know I am not the only one with an opinion, and others may disagree... all I want is a nice full server I keep coming back here cause I like you all.. there are a million servers to play on... but I still feel at home here.
As far as 1.6.... Like I said, if you would like to restructure your admins, I would be more than happy to help. Even with limited admin capabilities.

uh uh..i found my SteamID saturday and i asked if you wanted it then or later when it mattered and you said later. and now i'm at school away from my computer
so correction: NONE of our admins (minus Deuce who made an attempt) have made sure I have their new SteamID so they can keep their powers when the switch happens.

I'm an admin and I had started coming on more often after my 2 month or so break but now my CS won't work so I won't be in for about a week tops. Then I'll be back and banning like a demon!

well then that is probably why you wouldn't want to do it anymore....
being that CSR doesn't see very many map changes, and people are only kicked for violations of rules... it should not be too much work

I don't see the risk in giving someone low level admin. I mean if they abused it 30 people will post it in 1.2 seconds.

I agree 100% with fotty. I think we should just have maps like dust, office etc. on the map cycle and then just have map votes if we want to stick in a custom map. Its really fun when you have lots of people online then you throw in some map no one has it just ruins it. I understand there are map packs and all but people are having a hard enough time getting 1.6 working in the first place and when they do they find they have no custom maps and have to wait 30 minutes to download. I also agree that we should add 2-3 new admins. But fotty shouldn't be on of them [no offence]
P.S Holygrail should give Smokey his admin priviledges seeing as though i've seen Holygrail on csr about once in the last 3 months. So basically we are 1 admin short.

he was on today. for that matter i havent seen smokey on too much either.
i also dont think admin powers can be passed on so easily..it wouldnt really be my decision if i for example wanted to give my admin to someone else. doesnt work that way.

Look, EVERY OTHER server just has maps like dust, aztec, office, etc. THAT's WHY CSR has custom maps. CSR doesn't want to be like "every other" server. This is a community of unique individuals and unique tastes; that's why the AWP is banned. That's why cursing isn't allowed. If all you want to play is standard maps then go elsewhere because, whilst I can't speak for everyone, I'd like to think that more than just myself come here for the "flavor;" the "flavor" consisting of the people and the uniqueness of the server.

This whole discussion will have to wait. We barely have ANY admins now that AminMod is crippled. I have to go to class. When I get back, I'm going to go back to work trying to keep you all happy.
I can take the custom maps out of the rotations for a while since I don't have the new packs ready, and I agree that that's not fair. I'm telling you right now that the custom maps are going back in as soon as I have the map packs ready though. You'll all have your chance to bitch more in a week maybe.
Deuce has a good idea about figuring out which custom maps stay and which get the can. You all will see it in action soon enough. Give me a freakin' break for once! You think Steam is giving you problems??? Gah, you've got it easy! And compared to how many thing I have to fix because of it, you've REALLY got nothing to complain about.
Hasn't anybody noticed stats haven't been tracking for four days? Who wants to complain about that now? I'm surprised there hasn't been a post about it yet! "How come I don't have the Butter Fingers Award?!? I dropped 30 bombs yesterday! I counted!" Sheesh.
I can only do so much so fast!

i think custom maps should be on the server... with the addition of some sort of end of map voting system... I have nothing wrong with the custom maps other than people dont DLing them...
like at the last minute or whatever of the map a popup of
Next Map? 1. Dust 2. Office 3. Greenhouse 4. Italy
however many.. lets say 8 choices with 2 or 3 custom maps in the list... that way it lets the current players in the server have a voice about what map they want to play.. majority wins.. which i see is fair...
but this is just my suggestion.. not my demand.. its not like i will leave if this did not happen.. just giving an opinion... so porter and others that run the server.. dont take these personally at all, like I am bashing the maps or hard work that goes into them or running the server..
remember.. we are all just here to have fun

Personally, I think the "complaints" section of the forums should be closed until we get Steam settled in. Unless your complaint is along the lines of "steam can suck my big toe" and "riot shields make people look like goobers." Of course, that's just my opinion, as really, if you think we are gonna start tackling anything much more than that at this point, you need to seek help...
I offer for help a good bullet to the head...
