Requesting Help: Play CS

Hi all. The guys at Valve have been trying to pinpoint the cause of the awful performance of the linux version of hlds-- the program that runs Half-Life (and there fore CS) servers. Alfred Reynolds is a Valve employee who frequently interacts with the linux server admin's mailing list. He has set up a test server to help diagnose where the performance issue may be.
Now here's the juicy part. He needs players to be in the server playing so as to generate a measurable load. Please, if you have some time, and feel like something completely different(TM), hop on this Counter-Strike server for a while. I would welcome any feedback you guys have about the playing experience there.

...specifically, I would be interested in the time you were playing (including timezone), how many people were in at the time, what map you were playing, and how laggy the game was (for you and everybody else). Your out-of-game ping to the server would be nice too.

I played on that server for a little over and hour. my general comment would be: VERY laggy!
my ping was actually not that bad averaging around 110 which is just a little worse than what i get on CSR. but the team averages were running in the 250 range which made it noticably choppy. people were complaining about their shots not registering a bit too, but i would attribute most of that to the lag, and not bad server code. The geographical location of the server was undetermined and the players were from all over the place since the server was avertised on csnation.net. that might have contributed to the gross amounts of lag.
beyond the lag, i would say that the gameplay was indisigushable from CSR which is what should be expected. the maps i played were assault, office and italy. and the time of day was 6-7pm mountain time (8-9 eastern). the server fit 12 people and it had 8-12 in the game for most of the time i was there
It might take a week or two for the people with naturally high lag to stop playing before it could be properly judged.

The machine is in Washington, USA. It is a dual 333MHz Pentium 2, which partly explains the lag. Alfred is trying to establish a baseline for the linux binary's performance. He will be deploying various optimizations in the coming days (weeks?) to see how the affect performance.
