Stats will be Offline Next Week

This time we could almost get away with calling it "scheduled" maintenance as opposed to "unexpected interruption of service." Really what's happening is that yurei, Yuna and I are moving to a bigger pad across town and the DSL, while it is coming with us, will probably not make a completely smooth transition (if I know anything about how SBC operates).
Of course, I probably could have not even said anything and nobody would ever have noticed, but I do like to see new stuff on the front page once in a while so here you go.
Expect HLstats to be offline for an unspecified period of time next week while we move the DSL (and iCabbit!) to the new house.

Stats are officially offline. For that matter, so are Yuna, yurei and I!
DSL and phone got shut off at the old place on Wednesday, but only the phone is connected at the house right now. iCabbit and the DSL modem are getting moved tonight, but it could be a few more days until the DSL is actually active over there.
We can only check our email and such from work/school right now.

I'm posting this from our neighborhood Colonial Cafe, because the DSL at home isn't up and running yet. The move is going well, with pretty much everything in the house now, and only a couple dozen boxes left to be unpacked in the dining room. yurei and I moved iCabbit over the weekend, keeping it up and running via it's attached UPS while we drove across town (more than anything to preserve the 170+ day uptime on our little FreeBSD box).
The cats are getting settled as well, and most importantly (second to the DSL of course, but I've already covered that), the satellite TV has been connected so our DVR is happily recording shows again. I'll get yurei to snap some pictures of the place and get them posted as soon as SBC gets their collective @$$es in gear and gets our internet up!
Have fun everybody! Call my cell phone if you need anything.

Gotta get me an UPS. I almost cried when a power outage killed my 82 day uptime on my server. 
Personally, I would never drive across town with a hard drive spinning. If it had died, it would be pretty anti-climatic.

I shut down basically every service except sshd and init. MySQL, Apache, the HLDS and BZFlag servers... nothing was running that needed any I/O, so I'm pretty sure it was safe. I expect the head was idle (and parked) for the duration of the trip. I think both yurei and I would have laughed pretty hard if it had died though-- that poor machine has been beat up more than you could possibly know.
In other news, unpacking is proceeding slowly, with the dining room being the only room still largely un-occupy-able. SBC says that we're 34,000 feet away from the nearest CO (ruling out DSL), which is a boldfaced lie considering one my clients from work has service less than a thousand feet down the street from us. I plan on giving them an appropriate tongue-lashing to coax service out of them, but it might be a while still before we're online again.
And lastly, though nobody should care about this, I've ordered a new desk to replace the behemoth from the New Displays! thread since that one won't fit anywhere in the new pad (despite the house being a good deal larger! Apparently Yuna has this thing against a desk taking up half the space in a dining room. Go figure.  ) Anyway, the kicker there is the pair of Ergotron LCD arm mounts I also ordered for my Dell screens. (Since those bad boys won't fit on the smaller work surface.)
...I figure I can pay off my student loans next month.

I did this by accident...I'm in a web development class and we have to have two external links...to make this look more solid, and since it's locked away tightly on our schools server, I started a somewhat fake wumpa page that was going to link to CSR's main page and the CSR stats page that shows just the wumpa stats...i thought it would be cool.
Then brian moved, and broke it.

Well, we finally managed to coax a Comcast cable modem into giving us internet last night. It's not a static account, so iCabbit will continue to be offline indefinitely, but at least Yuna yurei and I can check our email on a regular basis.
