What to do when theres a hacker?

Ok last night after I'd been playing just a little bit too long there was this guy on playing with the name "alias" and he was CLEARLY hacking - crosshair was all over the place - some sort of mega fast speed hack thing as well.

The thing is I don't suppose there is much anyone can do now - Eni was playing as well and saw him - it ruined the game in the 5mins he was on and emptied the server.

I was just wondering if there was anything we could have done to make sure he could be banned??  If I knew how to record a demo I would have - but unfortunately it all happened so fast and I was just too pissed of to think properly.

Damn I hate those ******* (insert abuse as required )

The same goes for anyone on the Admin Team. You can usually track ONE of us down, and most of us care enough about this server to drop what we're doing to help you out for a couple minutes.

As for recording demos, use the record demoname console command. When you want to stop, use the stop command. There will be a file in your cstrike directory called "demoname.dem" ZIP the file and send it to me, Deuce or Grounded, since we can easily distribute it to the rest of the Admin Team for review.

It's also helpful to jot down the person's Steam ID, which looks like this: "STEAM_0:1:57386" and can be obtained from the status console command in-game.

Usually when there's a hacker in the server I just panic.  Then drop and roll.

I ask for 5 solid reasons why messenger so bad. and because it is made by Microsoft is not one.

A couple reasons why I use it:

1) alot of my friends use it
2) it is no-frills, no-nonsense
3) I use aMSN for linux computers most of the time which is a breeze
4) because of #3, on any computer that I sit down at throughout the course of the day, I can log in to it in 5 seconds.
5) viruses spread on it about as easily as through email, and since i am not stupid, i do not get viruses.

ummm. no.

when you log on computer B when computer A is already logged on, it lets you, and if and when you come back to computer A there is an error message that says: Disconnected, logged in at another location.  I do it all the time. Its been like that for a couple of years at least.

smilies are for fancy people, and I asked for [bold]solid[/bold] reasons.

I have hear of viruses spreading through AIM the same way. the way I am talking about of course, is when you get a message out of nowhere from your grandmother the second you log in that says: "Hey buddy, Check out this video its really funny " and then send you a link to an exe file.

Quote:

I am not saying AIM is bad, I am just saying dont knock MSN without any good reasons. I would imagine you would have more MSN contacts if you used MSN more anyway, but since you have decided you prefer AIM you use AIM alot more. I don't blame you for that. I dont know what the numbers actually are, but yes, I would imagine it is a regional thing

2) With aim, you can have it on two computers at the same time, so if you have an away message on one, you can go on another and sign on and talk. When you sign off, your original away message is still there, which is great if you're over a friends house.

3) Smileys are critical for conveying your message. And besides chicks dig them.

4) I've never gotten anything like that on AIM.

5) All my friends have AIM, most likely because growing up in a upper middle class town, everyone's computer illiterate parents had AOL. Nobody I know uses MSN.

granted, it does not suit your hyper-needs, but the claim was that it was inconsitent

it dings every single time that it is designed to.  in the case that it doesnt ding for you, it is you who is being inconsistent by not putting it in the background.

In which case my point still remains that the program's design does not fit the user's need. It's a usability thing, and not having the CHOICE to enable sounds when you want them is poor design.

And it actually IS inconsistent, since if you're using the program for the first time and chatting with someone, it doesn't ding, but if you switch to something else, then it does ding. Someone first using the program would naturally expect dings either for all messages or none, and the rules for when and why it dings might not be readily apparent.

Given the familiarity of today's culture with instant messaging programs, I think most people would expect consistent dings for every message. It is unfortunately a case of precedent, and AIM has it by a long shot. Other programs should follow suit simply to make transitioning to the new program painless for a user, especially since it's in the program's best interest to do so. I'm a prime example of that, since I expressly AVOID msn because it doesn't follow the rules I expect from an instant messaging program.

Nice thread hyjacking guys

I hardly use msm but if I need to instant message then thats what i use - and at least its better than the "Friends" network!!    Basically I only use msm because for the amount that I use it I can't be bothered to try something else - pretty lazy I know.

But I have to agree with Porter - the dinging is annoying - for example if I am making lunch or whatever I have to keep running back through to see if a reply has been made unless I remember to change the active window - and as I said I'm quite lazy so I dont always remember to do that.

I would be nice to have the option to chose how the sounds work!

dings for every message? a program that dings ever ten seconds would be included in my version of hell.

With AIM you can customize to ding whenever you want. It's tailored to your needs. You don't have to go with what Microsoft thinks you need. That is the beauty of AIM.

I have it set to ding everytime I recieve a message. Good for when you're doing something else or listening to music and you can't give your undivided attention to chatting (who ever can?).

Its a great quote. what can I say?

Has MSN ever failed me to notify me of a new message? nope

Does it go about notifying in a consistant manner? yes

does it go about it in a homogeneous manner? maybe not, but the way it does it is very ideal for me, and I would not put my use of MSN very far away from the average persons. The truth is i never gave a thought to how it operates in that regard until it was brought up on these forums since it has never come to my concious mind, so from that I can conclude it is doing a very good job at it.

Oh my god ...

this is sad its like no one that talks here even know Msn messenger thoroughly, you talk like you think you know everything it does but you have no idea.

You can turn on/off every "Ding sound/bottom window appearing" in the options, you can use webcams, microphones, you can play tons of REALLY fun games, you can use proxies to bypass colleges ports blocks .

If you dont like smilies (which is erally a stupid reason), you can turn them off.

You can create your own smilies, you have your own image to identify yourself (you should see mine ), you even have (if you want) a little page with all the latest exciting news when you log in.

MSN Messenger even helps transferring files through routers/networks sometimes -- Although it is often extremely slow when its the case, i can often send files to ppl while i cant send them through IRC/AOL/whatsoever.

Contacts are extremely easy to arrange, anyway...

I tried using AOL and i gave up after 2 minutes because i was tring to play CS and it was popping me out whenever anything happened (which can, im pretty sure, be turned off but it was so freakin annoying), also the program is ugly and basicly s*cks in every aspect :x..

I am canadian and i dont know anyone here that use AOL, in fact everyone think it blows... We are sold to microsoft i guess :x but htats fine it really feels like the best Instant Messenger right now for me. I was only using ICQ before but everyone deserted it (i must say the idea of having to remember ICQ # instead of e-mails probably didnt help ICQ hehe :/ )

Anyway, i guess AOL must be great when you get used to it...

You can turn on/off every "Ding sound/bottom window appearing" in the options, you can use webcams, microphones, you can play tons of REALLY fun games, you can use proxies to bypass colleges ports blocks .

. . .

Sounds like he got paid by Microsoft to say all that.

Actually, it sounds like a commercial.

Lets do this the pepsi/coke way.  Try both products for a month.  Use all the features, then see which one you like.  Or you can just quit your whining and use both.

Seriously though, who freakin cares?  Use whichever one you want.  Lose out on talking to the people on the other.  Or just run both.

i use gaim (on both my windows and linux machines)... allows me to get both services in one program

I also don't use AOL.. just the AIM name, as i have been.. uh.. *cough*banned for life from AOL*cough*

And now for a AIM checklist:

You can create your own smilies, you have your own image to identify yourself (you should see mine ), you even have (if you want) a little page with all the latest exciting news when you log in.

Both Programs are the same.. it all depends on your preference. Being American, it would be natural for me to like AIM better. I started using MSN though because the steam buddy list wasn't reliable enough to be able to talk to my scotlandish buddies.

I also use both. MSN is the only way I can communicate with Grounded and JB and even Ryo (as infrequently as I talk to them), but I don't mind using it at all. I don't understand what the big deal is either.

Just something else for Porter to complain about I suppose

Trillian > AIM + MSN

I think you mean to say
Trillian = AIM + MSN + Yahoo + ICQ

Trillian is not greater then AIM and MSN.  I havn't tried it in a while, but I hated the old version.

I think its safe to say talking to someone using Trillian is the most annoying.thing.evar.  It constantly reminds me that the person has been idle for 1 min, and there is no possiblity of direct connecting, or any other special functions.  Id rather use steam...well not really

What a day and age we live in.  Not only do we have this fabulous technology that lets us talk to people anywhere in the world, at any time, send files, share information and ideas, but we can also complain about how crappy this advanced piece of technology is.

You can quote me on that one.

I use MSN because I came from an upper lower middle class family that had AOL and I came to see how evil and annoying AOL is. When I forget all I have to do is go over to Mom and Dad's and log on to my old AOL account and watch all the crap that pops up when you launch it.
