This vote is to get an idea how many of us are able to play the game, and give me an idea what I should be looking for in terms of finding some kind of server for us CS:Source players to play on

I voted yes. I think a better poll question would be who prefers Source to 1.6? In which case I would vote no.

I have Source, but I have still been playing 1.6. I don't think there is anything inheriantly wrong with it and I am sure it will be awesome once I finally get into it, it just has a way different feel to it, and I would have to spend time playing on crappy servers looking for good ones. There is still plenty of good times to be had witb 1.6 on CSR, and I am not about to give that up for some prettier graphics.

Im being very specific about this because I dont want to ask which is better - I would like to be able to find out how many of us have the ability to play CS:Source so that I know what to look for in a server IF and WHEN people would like to play together

I haven't acquired hl2 until just recently, cause my internet connection was limited by a cruel proxy...but now I've just bought a secundary connection, not as fast but without the proxy, so I'm finally able to play with you guys...if my ping allows it
about weather it should be 1.6 or source, I'll say this: I wasn't happy when source was released, I thought some of the excitement of playing cs had disappeared, but nevertheless I play it...I wasn't happy either when 1.6 replaced 1.5, but hey - that's how it goes...I say go with the flow..

I have CS:S, but I don't really play it that much. I play 1.6 more because I just got back into it, but it still feels dated whenever I play it Source still has some huge bugs that they need to fix before I start really playing it.

Yeah I'm hoping CSS continues to mature through this year. I can't make myself play CS1.6 much because it looks so flipping ugly in comparison...

You won't play any old games? Me and JB have been replaying the PS1 Final Fantasy games recently and the poorer graphics don't bother me in the slightest.

Same here. A lot of times I'd rather first up an emulator-- I mean, my SNES, and play Super Mario World than some fancy complicated 3D game. Another great example is EarthBound. The graphics and sound are simplistic at best, but the game has a huge cult following of people who recognize the humor and enjoyability of the inner game. Check out http://starmen.net for example.

I guess if they redid EarthBound for say, the GameCube though, and managed to keep the same qualities that made the original great, I'd be all over it instead of the original. That's probably a scenario closer to what's going on with CS:S. The difference is that a GameCube version of EarthBound probably wouldn't need patches every other week to fix bugs.

Sega Genesis is the greatest video game system ever created.

Toe Jam and Earl and Herzog Zwei are probably my favorites.

Game = Gameplay

Game <> Graphics

Edit: I added links. Why is it that when I go to add somethings like YABBC tags or smilies in firefox, they go to the end of the post and not to where my cursor is?

Poorly written Javascript that was designed with IE in mind. It's in the latest version of SMF too, and it's always been on my list to investigating hacking a fix into the code.

I suppose I dont have any time to play old games because I feel I have to justify to myself spending hundreds of pounds on upgrading every couple of months...

There's a simple solution to that, and it'll save you a ton of money in the mean time: don't buy new games, then you'll save on the games and on having to upgrade. I haven't been really impressed by a game (like I was by say, Final Fantasy 7) since well, about Final Fantasy 7.

Call of Duty is amazing. Best single player mode I've ever played for a FPS.

Speaking of new games. I got Sid Meier's Pirates is soooooooo much fun. The pirate life is the life for me.

I also got Farcry because it was only $20. Haven't opened it yet.

I am definetly snagging that one when it comes to Xbox. Originality is what is lacking from so many games.

This game is so much fun.  It mixes certain elements from CS, HALO, and some sneaking elements from Splinter Cell and then upgrades the graphics x 999999...and ive only just started playing it

There are a ton of 'sequel' games coming out on various formats. Before Crisis is I think on the Gameboy, Crisis Core for mobile phones and Dirge of Cerberus on the PS2, the latter being a continuation of the original game with Vincent as the lead.

The more I play pirates, the more I want a time machine to go back to the 1600's. Swashbuckling, raiding French ports, and romanicing governor's daughters is the most fun I've had playing a video game since...playing my Sega Genesis.

We need a pirate smiley.

I played FarCry on LAN in France and was extremely impressed.  Me and G took on some Frenchies and after getting used to the game we started dominating the dojo.  I kicked ass on deathmatch mode thanks to my CS background but the sheer size of the map and luxurious graphics were amazing.  When I do upgrade sometime in the next few years I'll be making sure the machine can run this game.

Another game I devoted quite a lot of time to and then realised it was just irritating was ShenMue on the Dreamcast.

Before I was indoctrinated into FPS games we played a lot of Beat Em Ups like Soul Blade, Street Fighter EX + Alpha and Tekken.

Goldeneye on N64, Gain Ground on PS1, Moonwalker on the Sega Master System.  Good stuff.

LOL! I can see the court dialogue now...

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we the prosecution present to you "Michael Jackson's Moonwalker". The evidence speaks for itself. Have a go at it if you dare.

:::Jury plays it for 10 minutes:::

Your Honor, we'd like to save the court some time and rule him guilty right now. Not only on child molestation chargs, but for crimes against humanity for authorizing such a game.

Motion Granted.

Now that I look back on Moonwalker I do realise just how sinister that whole thing is...

I used to love his music and flashy dance moves but that all seems so far from the shadow of a man we see on TV today.

Acknowledged Gain Ground mistake - it was of course MS and not PS1 - I suck.

Another good game was Tetris across 2 linked Gameboys - battling out to discern the CONSTANT CHAMPION!

One game I can still fire up and have fun playing is the old Wing Commander series - and wouldn't you know it, there is now a new version of Privateer, re-done with a new engine and graphics. Anyone ever play Wing Commander Prophecy? With the cheesy movies and Mark Hamill trying his best NOT to look like an old Luke Skywalker. That game was cool in it's day.

Anyone who likes a good turn based strategy game should check out Battle for Wesnoth. Graphics are so so, but the gameplay is awesome.

Also, while were talking old games - you ALL need to try System Shock 2. Absolutely the best game bar none that I have ever played, period. I've played it through like 5 times and it still kicks. I think it went abandonware a while back so you might be able to google for it and find a download somewhere.

I remember Wing Commander - and the awful film with Freddie Prinze Jnr and Matthew Lillard which was on late last week some time.

I think we played WC at our friend's house during early high school, as well as Alone in the Dark.  Heh that game spooked me a bit.

What was the game that had castles and boats and each round you fired your cannons and then had to rebuild castles like tetris with shapes and if you enclosed the castle you got more cannons!  I use to love that old game!

I think my favorite computer game(s) has to have been the King's Quest, Quest For Glory, Police Quest, and Space Quest series. As unorignal as their titles may be, Sierra made so many badass games back then. In addition to those brilliant titles, there was Gold Rush, Colonel's Bequest, and Man Hunt (sounded badass -- never played it).

These games where typing things correctly was essential, spurred my life long love affair with proper spelling and grammar.

I also know some people made an update to the Kings Quest and Quest For Glory. Too busy to look for the link. And by busy I mean lazy.

I played those alot...but they were so hard!! with police, I got stuck all the time...couldn't really find anywhere to go after I got a car...Kingsquest - that damn medusa in the desert always tricked me, and I got stuck here too....spacequest...well..I just got shot all the time
